An Alternative issue/solution to VSC TRAC VSC-off/ ABS light

Your right, but we are getting closer.. doing some more internet digging around, it seems like the debris in the sensor housing front he first sensor might possibly have damaged the toner ring..

So even with new sensor harness, new sensor and a clean sensor track, its just not getting signal.

Correct me if im wrong here,
I cannot see the toner ring without taking apart the hub assembly which will then need to be pressed back together..

at this point a new hub assembly would have all of these pieces including the seals that probably dont exist anymore.

If there any other part of this system that could be bad or worth checking at this point?

I'm going to assume you've already tried this, but I haven't seen it mentioned. Have you disconnected the battery for 20-30 mins yet? Sometimes the system just gets stuck.

LOL yeah I have.. with no change unfortunately

after doing some more reading and discussing with some other experienced people, ive decided to order a new hub assembly and dust shield. Since its obvious my seals are all shot even if the bearings arent yet. At that point there really isn't anything else I can find that would be the issue.

I think when I pulled the cv out to reboot, the seal were dried out and they ripped, debris fell into the track, the debris destroyed the sensor which in turn destroyed/coated the toner ring in garbage. I probably didn't "need" a abs harness wire. but a new one couldn't hurt. Now I have a back up. Once I install this, I will update the thread.

When I had those lights it was the brake pedal switch that failed. Only took me two years to figure out.

Here's the replacement seal I used when I was last doing CVs:

Timken 710573 Wheel Seal

They're about $10 from Amazon. I paid similar for some store brand at Autozone/Napa. They're pretty common. It's a metal ring with a rubber seal and that tiny "spring" tucks in underneath a surprisingly small lip in the rubber. At first my wife picked them up and I swore it was the wrong part. I didn't realize the whole metal ring came out.

Yep, thats what those little tiny springs are.. weird someone decided thats what should go there..
I have a new hub assembly and dust seal coming in. Ill report back on this thread and update the first post if this is the fix when i get a chance to put it in. I got a wheelin trip coming up in a month and i need my atrac back lol

Solved:

Finally got in my hub assembly. Ended up getting it from the jersey guy again since I figured it would be quicker being only a bridge away. For those interested, it does come with a new axle nut and cotter pin.


Anyway, when I removed the old hub assembly it was obvious. The magnetic ring that the sensor reads was destroyed and full of debris from the previous sensors. I thoroughly cleaned everything, wire wheeled and wiped with break cleaner several times. installed new hub assembly, buttoned it back up and after driving about 50 feet the lights are off. I put about 50 miles on so far and everything seems great.

Lesson learned:
remove the damn abs sensor if you do anything behind the brakes.
