I was playing around with some of my cameras this afternoon in preparation for the Summit this summer. I wanted to find a way to get the articulation of the suspension, and I specifically wanted to find a good angle to view the coilovers in action. I haven't found the right mounting spot yet, but I thought a couple of people might be interested in these videos. Things are way more violent down there at 20 MPH than I thought they would be! I get off pavement at about 2:00 in the first video.

Here are some pictures of the setup. I've been debating an upgrade to the Contour+ which allows you to remote view the camera for viewfinder purposes via Bluetooth, but I don't know if I really need it; the lasers on the Contour HD do a pretty good job. I've got a bunch of different mounts for it. The suction cup mount pictured is this one: Amazon.com: Panavise 809 Camera Window Suction-Cup Mount: Camera & Photo - very cheap, but very sturdy and well made. I use a Nikon D7000 DSLR with a few different lenses and a Rode external mic for handheld video.

Did you coat the bottom of your shocks with something, looks like Rhino liner??

Great videos ! Keep them coming as I watched them about 10 times now.Really shows how close things are when moving.

It would be great to see them when they are at full flex or stuffed!:hungry: I'm going to have to get me one of those mounts as they seem to hold great. Are you afraid of a rock kicking up and breaking the camera?

I use the same camera for my videos. I have a weapon mount and a couple others. The + model is on my list as well because of the viewfinder option. They are coming out with a new one but I haven't heard a solid date yet. Just an FYI you can import those videos directly to your iPad with the camera adapter kit ( $35). Make it nice to offload video from a card in the field.

Yeah, really putting the suspension through its paces this summer in Colorado and Utah is why I'm playing with the cameras now trying to find the best angle. I'm hoping to get some good footage while we're all out at the Summit! I wasn't too worried about a rock until I saw the footage from the view looking into the top of the wheel well at the UCA... rocks are flying all over the place there! I'm just hoping that the glass on the lens cover isn't the same glass Toyota uses in their windshields...
 
Awesome videos Mike! Makes you realize just how much abuse that suspension actually takes.

I would love to see that shot driven over some of B-More city's finest roads...

I was not sure. The trials in and around Ouray are not real challenging when it comes to rocks but they will take that off eventually.

Have you looked at something around the t-case pointed towards the rear axle? I know of a few who have permanently mounted cameras there. Pretty safe spot for the trail. Would depend on the skid plate/s. Or is there a small plastic splash guard you could remove from the front wheel well and place the camera in the engine compartment? Then re-install post filming.

Ahhhhh man, you got me really wanting that camera, and I still have coil-overs to buy!!

I've got the full Shrockworks skids, so there's plenty of mounting space along the belly, but it's all prone to getting ripped-off and squashed as you pointed-out. I'll check for mounting points further back. I saw a couple of things up in the body that might work for some good shots when I was under there the other day. Hopefully I'll get some time this week to play around with it a bit more.

The engine compartment was actually my next stop since the UCA extends into the engine bay. I need to take a better look at it, but I suspect there's a feasible mounting point in there somewhere.
