Step 1 in the rebirth of my '85 4runner has been taken. Dropped the block off @ machine shop yesterday! Ordering cam & head this week. I plan on this being my rebuild thread, so I don't start 10 other threads relating to it. Shop is a couple/few weeks out. I feel like a kid before Christmas! I'll get front end parts while we build the motor.

I am ordering the Street RV package from engnbldr.com. A performance casting head w/ the 261 crawler cam. but they are closed for a week. Back up on the 27th. so I have to WAIT!!! Arg! 82 more hours!!!AHHH!

Here are pics a couple months after I got the truck in the beginning of 2010?? I had already removed moldy (Very very moldy) interior and cleaned it out, and also got the Softopper for it. 274,000 miles at that point on the rig. I spray lined the interior, and ditched the rear seat. The newest version of my $40 camo paint job seems good now. This is a fun/hunting/daily driving rig for me.

Well, the cylinders will be bored out .20 over, and I just had the machine shop order the pistons and other stuff that they usually use. cheaper and faster for the same parts. Looks like I may have the block back within 2 weeks.

Wow, The block was picked up from the machine shop Today!!! That was just 10 days, when they said they were 3 weeks out!! Head and cam are ordered and next weekend is the start of the build....as long as head and cam get here by then! Whooooop!!!
So, after we build it up, we swap out my old motor with the new!

Going through the list of parts we salvaged from the '87 4runners, I realize I have an inclinometer!!! Yeee-Haw!! That baby is going in!!

I like my inclinometer. It's good to know exactly what angle I'm sitting at when my butthole grabs seat cloth and my balls start crawling up my throat.

It's a Softopper. I run it year round here in Montana. I love it and I'll never go back to hardtop!!!

You live in Missoula? I'm over in Whitefish. Nice truck, I hope to put a soft top on my classic runner soon also. Do you have the cab divider? I'd like to run it year around too but it sounds a little chilly.

No divider. It's really not bad. If you have decent heat it's fine! I've removed my rear seats and added an eye bolt w/2ft leash, to hook into my dogs harness. Also the extra room is good for a small gun rack, or a somewhat larger gun rack. Oh, and yes, Missoula.

Hoping Head and cam shipped today-ish. Ended up getting a Street/performance head, still a better casting but retaining the stock sized valves, and keeping it a bit more serviceable/reliable as far as having original sized equipment in there. Still getting 261 crawler cam. This won't be a rock crawler, but a Daily drive/hunting/mountaineering rig, capable of having an exo-cage, w/external cargo attachment possibilities, and roof rack...think, "hunting and camping anywhere". Maintaining reliability and Street ability is important to me. This will be my only rig, year round. Although, my "in town driving" is hardly what most would call "commuting."

Another gun rack option, and also my solution to the aweful dashboard glare on the windshield, Pants!! Not very attractive, but cuts out any glare and gives a pocket to keep my insurance card and registration papers. My roadkill keeper bumper, and I removed my radio and used old licence plates to make a storage box. also, my machete storage.

Today was Christmas day via delivery man!!! Stainless steel valves, Yummy cam, and "Giggity-Giggity"!!! Planning to build it at the end of the month. I have a real good friend/family who wants to help build it and make sure us Whippersnappers don't Eff it up.

We're building the motor next weekend......yesterday my Check engine light came on......I laughed heartily!!! Screw you "Check engine light!!"
