I'm running a 1" on my v8 swap, I think my stability is uncompromised haha.
I have a 2" on my V8 swap but I also plan on using hot glue......:first:

If those are the pucks sticking out from the rear of the frame, that was more than a 1 or 2 inch body lift.

yep, those look to be 3" blocks.
ive got a 3" BL on my 85 TRUCK(necessary evil for v8), and never once had cause for concern. nor have I noticed the cab move. granted, the 4runner is a lot more weight on the mounts than the cab of a truck. I think it would be more a problem of installer error, than a fault of the BL itself.
use proper graded bolts, and good mounts, there shouldn't be any problems....

I believe a 1" body lift is ok when serving a purpose other than tire clearance but I don't think I'd ever go bigger. A lot of comments on FaceBook were saying well the pucks are still attached to the frame so the body lift didn't cause it but I believe the leverage on a bolt that long is the problem. It twist and ripped the head right through the floor I'm sure. Wasn't a straight A student in science but there's gotta be a momentum/energy reason for what happened here. Either way I hope everyone involved was ok.

just because the body ripped off the frame in the accident, doesn't mean the BL was the cause.
crash ANYTHING bad enough, and you will destroy it.

I'm no crash investigator by no means but there is a reason they are illegal in some states. This trucks body mounts were altered, and the mounts then failed. As a fireman I've seen a lot of crashes and never seen a body off of a chassis like this.

A properly made, properly installed body lift kit is no danger to the structure of the vehicle. When the blocks are of adequate width and strength, and the proper strength bolts are used, they are just as strong as the original body mounts. Those that sheer off were likely home-made junk or some cheap lowest-bidder kit. One sure sign of home-made--anything over 3" tall, because the aftermarket doesn't go higher than that. Those blocks on that green one in the story look suspiciously tall.

Guess I stand corrected. When I lived in Ill. body lifts were illegal but that's been many many years ago. Now the law there as well as many other states say the floor pan can't exceed 3" from the frame at any point. I know there's a couple spots where my floor is probably 1.5" from the frame so I guess that would mean no more than 1.5" of lift??? I guess they could be safe if they are not a $60 eBay deal and as long as they are installed correctly, and I considered a 2" one for my truck but after reading many post and reviews decided not to put my money towards one. And yes I've seen tires ripped off rims before, usually the worst of the worst crashes. Just personally in the 15 years of responding to crash calls I've never seen anything like this.

Agreed, my BL is only 1" but the bolts are Grade 8 which I'm sure are stronger than the standard Yota bolts.
And guys please, dont go to FB for 4Runner help, especially that retarded 4runner mafia group. All of the smart people are right here.
