Annoying Noise - Thoughts?

Specs: 2010 Limited - a few aftermarket changes - :lalala:

Anyway - I only have this noise, almost like metal on metal (double-tap) when turning right onto an inclined driveway. I removed all the skids and anything else I could think of so they aren't the issue. The sliders look like they will be close to touching but it is an illusion. This doesn't happen when turning left with the same variables.

Anyway - video is better than a description (F*%#~ng Noise). There are three video with the GoPro mounted in different locations pointing at the same area I hear the noise from. Sorry for any ads. This is driving me nuts and would like to fix it - haven't gone to a mechanic yet as anyone I would trust for suspension is not close by.

Any thoughts on areas to check out :violin:

It sounds exactly like a loose "nut/bolt" being throne about inside the body or frame. Has there been any shock or other suspension work done to the truck to your knowledge? Regards!

Looks like you still have the sway bar on .Sounds like a sway bar rubbing on spring or front frame support.Did you install the sway bar relocate spacers and the frame support spacers when you did the lift?

Check caster adjusting bolts. Reminds me noise that i use to have - find out that was loose bolts.

I did most of the work but it's a possibility though the total suspension is new and the click was there before the coilovers were swapped. Odd that I only hear it on right turns going onto an incline. I can blow over ruts, bumps, dips anything at speed and no sound.

Yes they are but that's the first place I checked and the noise was happening before they were installed so I didn't bother taking them off. They move with the lower control arms and don't rub on anything.

I've looked at that but don't see any rubbing. The relocation kit was added and is installed. I actually installed a second new set when the Icons went on.

I have touched all of them and they are tight. They aren't able to move as easily as the stock setup since I had Total Chaos cam tabs welded on. It's a very solid part now.

I played the video over a few times until I could place hearing that sound before (the distinct sound of 'loose metal' travelling on metal). I'm sure that if you can pin point the area where the sound is coming from, you'll find a void somewhere in the chassis, body or load baring suspension part where there's a nut, bolt, or socket bouncing around inside! "Please be sure to let us know what you found, best to you!"

Just generalizing what is in my signature: bumpers, electrical, lights, rack, trim, suspension, skids...basically stating that there have been changes to the truck but nothing that I would consider to be the culprit of the noise.

Some folks ask what's been done to give them a better idea - hence why I qualified everything that was removed since those items tend to be the obvious areas folks would target issues around noises.

Sorry - wasn't trying to draw you into that comment as the focus of the noise.

I am also not implying though that the aftermarket changes may not have contributed to the scenario that led to the creation of the noise - just that those parts aren't the problem as I have had most of them off and the noise continues. What is left on the truck is mostly stock parts (or parts I know 100% are not the issue) and that's the core question here - something isn't working right together and it only is when I turn right and onto an inclined driveway/street.

I looked and the c/o are performing great. I didn't provide all the other undercarriage video but I drove over many other obstacles just to remove them as variables. The c/o's performed perfectly and most importantly ...no noise...well almost no noise - all suspension is a little noisy.

I found a rock in mine the other day, but it was small and made no noise inside the cab, but just saying. I would also check and see if transmission or exhaust parts are touching your skids up front.

EDIT: to get a better idea of the noise location, use a length of hose and place one end under the truck near your area of concern and listen to the other end. By moving the end of the hose around, you should be able to more accurately determine the direction of the noise compared to the GoPro.

You will look funny driving around with a piece of hose hanging down the side of your truck

Thanks. I removed all the skids so it isn't the skids, but good idea with the hose. I agree it will look funny - luckily I don't have to drive far to recreate the issue/noise.

lol Sorry man I was being a bit sarcastic there. Sometimes these things are hard to convey over the net. Your truck is obviously heavily modded and pretty awesome at that. Hopefully you are able to get this one solved. Noises like that drive me frigging crazy.

Issue Resolved.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions...this actually had me looking elsewhere on the truck (rather than focus on the front as that is where I "thought" the noise was coming from).

Coming clean - so I was only partially telling the truth when I said all the skids were off - all the skids up to the gas tank only.

After some additional video footage - looking at the sway bars...I noticed the sound was more muted. So I pointed the camera towards the rear expecting to see nothing and hear even less. First thing I saw was the rear end getting stuffed, shock doing its job, but most importantly how much sway was going on.

So slid under the truck at the rear, checked everything out and noticed a very slight nick/ding on the bolt holding the gas tank skid. This is the bolt closest to the rear driveshaft exactly opposite at where it connects to the rear differential.

So I dropped the gas skid and went for a drive and "no sound" !!!!!

Great news...except what the "F" am I going to do about the gas skid!

Besides letting RCI know, I went and modified mounts by cutting about 5 inches of the 3/16 steel by about 2 inches into the skid. I then fabricated a new 3/16x2x16ish hanger, bent to form, drilled, added holes to the skid to mount and finally painted all bare or exposed metal.

Two things sucks about this: #1 the skid was powder coated so had to remove some of that when cutting and cleaning up, #2 the bolts to attach the new hangar are on the bottom of the skid vs. no bolts before as they mounted on the side.

If I could weld I would have gone that route in a heartbeat vs. bolting it onto the skid.

Anyway - problem solved. It was scary that the bolt was coming into contact with the rear driveshaft as that could spell disaster. Luckily there didn't seem to be enough damage to be concerned - though it definitely left marks.

Anyone with an RCI gas skid should take a look at their setup.
