Another Bilstein 5100 question

Posting here because I didn't want to hijack the thread that I read this in. I recently came across a thread talking about about a zero point calibration for the traction control system possibly be necessary after installing a lift. Just curious how many of you guys have actually found this to be necessary after doing a mild/less than 2 inch lift? Of course all lifts vary but there should be some consistency to this if very similar lift heights are being performed…

For me, it was defiantly the shocks set to 1.75". I ran with original tires for a couple of weeks just to make sure. I later switched to 275/70 ko2's & not much difference in ride, just a lot heavier.
I'm going to drop the front to 0.85" with a 0.4" front spacer to reduce the increase in preload but maintain the height.

This goes against everything I've read here, but I have to trust your direct experience. Everyone says the 5100s don't preload the spring, they just extend further and offer the adjustable perch to get the desired lift height.

It's very interesting that the shocks seem to get progressively firmer the higher the perch is set, even with the OEM springs.

Please post up your thoughts once you lower to 0.85". :tea:

For the love of baby jesus! 5100s dont preload, yes they are stiffer that OEM, no the ride is not harsh even at 2.5", zero point may or may not need to be done. You can use factory ucas without issue, it doesnt improve turning radius, it helps a little with nose dive and it makes you 5th Gen not look like a vagina anymore.... come on guys this thread is getting as bad as the supercharger thread

Tire Size

2.5/1.5 is where its at!

What tire size is that? You running spacers or anything?

Anyone have any ideas why Im getting a clunk when in reverse and steering wheel to the left? I've had my Bilstein 5100s installed for about 3 months now, but this has only just developed!

Hey no need to bash other people's questions on here. I have never installed shocks or any suspension components, therefore I use this thread to educate myself from people whom have done the things that I wish to do on my rig. Keep it classy T4R.org Keep it Classy.jpg

It just wouldn't be T4R.org without arrogant sarcasm delivered via middle school vocabulary and grammar. :llama:

I like to think there is some 400 level sarcasm and vocabulary and grammar every now and then...

Oh wait - It's Friday and Friday is Bad Engineering Jokes Day!!! Ready?

"A mathematician, scientist and engineer were tasked with finding the volume of a red ball.

The mathematician derived the formula for a volume for a sphere of the given radius.

The scientist submerged the ball in water in a graduated cylinder and measured the displaced volume.

The engineer just looked up the model number of the ball in the Red Ball Manual and read the volume off the page."

So true...

Ditto! From someone else that learned what to do from this forum, and thankful for it!

Oh... my bad.... sorry for bashing questions that were answered fifty eleven times:becky:

There are 40 pages on here, I actually did the right thing and searched for keywords about my question and couldn't find the answer. Therefore I asked my stupid question :moony:

4th page under "Increased Rebound Control", 1st sentence.

"Increased Rebound Control
The lift on the 5100 Series leveling shocks is achieved by increasing the preload on the factory coil. By adding more preload, the shock is designed with more rebound damping as compared to the O.E. or standard aftermarket replacement shock.

Have you done the basics? Checked all your suspension for tightness? Also do a visual to see if the coils are making contact with the sway bar. Depending on the orientation of the spring, it can make contact with the sway bar.

Question,

I am currently looking to buy Bilstein 5100 front and rear with a cornfed spacer in the rear, but i'm trying to decide weather or not i want to go with the 1.75" setting and 1" rear spacer OR the 2.5" setting and 1.5" spacer in the rear (preferred). Whats making making this decision hard for me is a few things...
1) tire size ...265/70/17 OR 275/70/17?
2) tire rubbing...265's probably wont have any rub but will 275's?
3) will i need UCA's if i go with the 2.5" setting and 275's??... I saw a previous post where someone running this setting mentioned he needed UCA's.
4) id like the truck to have no rake...which setting gets rid of the rake?

Vehicle is a 2017 T4R SR5 4x4. Wheels going on are authentic T4R TRD PRO wheels. Bought it for my wife to lug the kids around with, but does see some off road 4WD required action every once in a while..

I am new to this forum and to this truck, so any info helps! Thanks

I would go 1.75 front and 1" in the rear keep stock size tires but more aggressive if you like.

I just set mine up similarly to what you're doing & you may want to reconsider. Others will tell you it's a great ride; I would disagree. You'd be giving up alot in ride comfort. I'll be removing my bilstein setup & just putting a 1" spacer up front probably. My wife hates the way it drives too. Anyway, just my honest opinion.
