Another Full-Length Roof Rack Option -PrinSu

I just got my 7/8 rack this past week and plan to install tomorrow. The rails are powder coated black and the crossbars are anodized black. The rail for the wind deflector is silver (not sure why they didn't anodize to match the others) but the wind deflector itself is powder coated black. It also came with the 1" cross bar to go behind the shark fin antenna. I got two of the mounting plates and they are powder coated black as well.

I ordered from the Prinsu site, but emailed with CBI after order was placed. They were pretty responsive to my questions. The lead time was only about 2 weeks. Looks like I got the wrong sized bolts, so I will be contacting them to replace with the correct size. (Will use factory bolts for initial install and swap them out later.)

It was delivered by UPS. It took about 10 days for them to ship my order and another 4 - 5 days for UPS to deliver.

Nice! I ordered mine Sunday, and it arrived here yesterday! Can't beat that. They even sent me the proper hardware. I was surprised to see the spacers had been powdercoated black. It looks like your windscreen is on the bottom set of mounts. I initially installed mine in the middle, but that left 1/8" of space between the bar and the roof. I was able to flex it enough to get close to the roof, so I moved it to the top mounts. Wind noise is negligible. So far I like it.

I got the full length rack mounted this weekend. I took some ideas from a few people on here, such as heat shrink over the spacers, rubber washers under the spacers, and the no-drill option for the front feet. Aside from waiting for the rear 1" crossbar to arrive she's done.

I still need to order a universal mount for the rotopax fuel can and mill out the crossbar tracks for easy access to mount hardware without removing the crossbar from the side rail. I'll order a 40" Baja Designs S8 light bar for the rack when funds allow.

I made my own homemade Maxtrax mounts, not bad for $6 in hardware. I cross-drilled the pins for use with luggage locks in hopes of possibly keeping the quick grab thief at bay.

Where'd you get the black eye nuts? Sourcing out parts now before the rack shows up.

Hey there. Would you mind telling me the size bumper you used? I have the same set-up, a full Prinsu drill but I didn't drill and I have a temporary buffer there right now. I'm trying to make sure I order one tall enough that will keep the rack from banging around when there isn't any weight/ highway wind/etc. I appreciate it! Looks great on your truck- I'm amped to use and abuse this thing!

Nope didn't punch the strip or anything. There's metal running through it and I didn't want to muck about with it. The rubber foot is simply resting on it.

I can't decide if I should get the non-drill or drilled version with the rubber feet on the full length. It looks like the non drill still needs the weather stripping to be cut for the non drill 3m feet.

Any pros and cons to either or regrets on going with one and not the other? I plan on ordering tomorrow

I have slowly been adding parts/accessories to my 4Runner. I picked up the Prinsu Rack several months back along with the Road Shower from a group buy.

I loved the idea of being able to carry pressurized water along on our camping trips, beach trips, etc. Before purchasing the RTT I would simply install the Road Shower on the top of the roof rack using the mounts supplied with the Road Shower; simple and basic.



However, when I purchased the RTT I ran into a bit of a dilemma. The RTT would naturally take up most of the top of the roof rack which wouldn’t allow me to mount the Road Shower and the Tent together. So, I started brainstorming on ideas on how to make it work. I thought about turning it lengthwise across the roofline but for various reasons including my Roof Mounted Awning the sideways method wasn’t completely ideal let alone that the Road Shower extended beyond the roof line on both sides.



In the end I settled on the option of mounting the Road Shower along the side of the Prinsu Rack using the Prinsu awning brackets which allowed the RTT to fold open resting just above the Road Shower and just above the door line so all the doors open unimpeded. I wanted to come up with a design for a bracket that I could mount in conjunction with the Prinsu awning brackets that would 1) give an OEM look, 2) provide additional support, 3) allow for quick and easy mounting/removal of the Road Shower (now literally seconds) and 4) lock the road shower in place using a total of 4 bolts per mounting point. I took some inspiration from a Toyota Tundra I saw that had a similar mount that attached to the bed rack and came up with a bracket that hugs the contours of the road shower and fits perfectly along the side of the roof line and above the doors.





I’m pretty pleased with the end result.











As many of you know having a few custom parts made is never a cheap venture, so to bring down the cost a bit I had the manufacturer make 5 sets of them for me. This is probably a super long shot… but if there are any of you who are in a similar situation and own both the Prinsu Rack and the Road Shower and would be interested in a set of brackets let me know. I’m not looking to make money off this, but it would be nice to recoup a little of my costs and provide a good solution to a handful of you. The brackets cost me $30 per piece to have cut, bent, and powder coated… so for a set of 2 it cost me $60. Let me know if anyone would be interested in a set.

Back when CBI didn't own Prinsu my buddy tried 3 times to get awning brackets from Zach. Each time they didn't work properly. He ended up taking a bad bracket to a machine shop and they fabbed up 18 of them for him out of aluminum. They worked great. I have 6 if those brackets, so that's why I'm curious as to the material.
This would solve my problem of getting in and out of my garage door with the Roadshower on top of my rack. Does the $60 pr include shipping?

The brackets are made out of aluminum and so far are working great. Tried to match their thickness to match the awning brackets. I purchased the awning brackets from CBI/Prinsu and they seem to have worked out any kinks. But sounds like you have all the awning brackets you need. Price would be $60 plus shipping but I’m sure shipping won’t be more than $12 in the US. But to be honest it’s less about the money and more about helping others with a similar problem as me. So whatever people are willing to “donate” is fine by me.

How do you like the tent mounting brackets? I have a ton of rattle on my prinsu with my rtt on there and I can't figure out how to get it to stop. I'm thinking of trying these.

I'm a big fan of the FrontRunner quick release tent mounts. I don't have any rattle on my rack when it is mounted. Although your tent will sit up a few inches higher on your rack if that is an issue for you.

But frankly I am surprised you are getting rattling if you are mounting directly to the rack. I figured that would produce even less vibration, but I guess I was wrong.

I do like to remove my tent when its not in use so the quick release tent mounts were ideal for my needs.
