Another getting rid of the JBL thread

Cheaper the better.. I see the kenwood mentioned above.. Is about 100 bucks..

Im not sure about the cheaper amps "pyle" etc 50 bucks.. but I dont want to replace or have it under rated either.

Before I always used fosgate amps and was happy.. But I dont need or care to have loud speakers anymore.. Im old. Almost embarrassing now if people in other vehicles hear what I listen to..:lalala: But I do like the idea of not having wires to run and can store it under the dash somewhere hidden.

I couldn't find the kenwood your talking about and not knowing exactly what is the specs of your sub and what voice coil configuration. Its hard suggesting an amp. Plus you want it to fit in the dash, is even more difficult. If you want to run two small amps under each front seat that can be done easily. If not this is the only thing I can think of right now, that will fill your requirements and fit under one seat. But its so popular and a bang for your buck, its OOS everywhere.

I am 40 and I hate the super bass in cars now. I used to love it, but my ears don't like it anymore. The Kenwood I got is this one:

The best thing about it is that all I had to run from the deck was 2 sets of RCAs. I used the JBL bypass harness at the stock JBL amp and wired this one right to it (with the exception of the rear pillars where I ran new wire). This thing is small, and I mean about 1/2 the size of the stock amp. Sounds great for everything I listen to and does the job for the small speakers. Granted I changed all of the speakers out to Polk, and the sub to a Kicker, but it does the job well.

I mounted it under the passenger seat so sounds like it won't work for you. I then mounted the Kenwood in the stock JBL location in the back behind the amp/ sub cover. The mono amp is small enough that it doesn't take up much room under the seat, and since the Kenwood is at the stock location, it didn't change the look at all. I hate having amps and subs out in the open as well.

Well, went to the local car audio store I have dealed with fir years. Got a killer deal on a JL audio XD700 5/v2 amp. Fits great under the passanger seat. Got it 3/4 hooked up, will post the results later tonight

I totally forgot about the stock amp location. The ppi phantom could fit in there. But if your willing to do a two amp install. you can do the kenwood and one of these. I would try something with a little more power than the kenwood though.

But I would just try to fit the ppi in the stock location and just run fronts, rears, and sub off of it. unless you really want to run both amps in the dash.

I uploaded a pic of some putting a jl audio JX 250/1 in the stock location. same size as the phantom.

Nice choice, those xd are killer amps. Even better are the HD's, but out of price range for a lot of people.

Got it all installed. Ran new speaker wire and connected it to to the stock wiring by the factory amp. Sounds amazing. Need to figure out how to tune it, I think I got the gain set, but I need to figure out how to do the hz part.

Wanted to buy a sub, but they did not have a shallow 8", only a JL V3 and that looked pretty deep.

nice, you should take off the vent and run all the wires through that big opening. Its pretty much useless now. Its was pretty useless before, since there was that flap at the bottom of the seat the block the air in the first place.

where did you run the ground to?

google on how to set the gains right. It's easy but your gonna need some test tones. To tune the eq, your gonna need an RTA setup, I just listen to the peaks that I don't like and cut it. I'll probably set with an RTA one of these days.

I am in the position of just wanting to replace the factory amp by the sub along with the sub for the best value per dollar. Also, can the new amp be wired with the existing wires from the old one?

Ordered the last part. I am not a bass guy and thought the stock sub would be ok with a nice amp. It's not. Ordered a Kenwood 8" shallow mount sub. 150 rms watts and my amp can push 180rms at 4ohm, should be a good pair. Loving the clean sound from the speakers and amp tho. Lesson learned, when getting rid of JBL, just gut the entire thing.

good job, u do need more bass, 2 15s should be plenty :wink2:

aslong as all the gains are set correctly, the sounds should be balanced.
