Another TPMS sensor thread. :-)

Just got the new tires installed and I get a TPMS light after a few miles. Techstream tells me that 4 of 5 sensors are reporting pressures, but sensor #3 is reading zero. BUT, the techstream also says all 5 TPMS sensors are reporting over the minimum threshold voltage. So, what gives? I have a call in to my mechanic, but I would have thought if it was the TPMS battery it would trip the under threshold data field. Reading zero PSI in a tire that manually checks at 38 PSI with a good TPMS battery just has me stumped.

These sensors can have a good battery and still commnicate with techstream but the pressure sensing function has gone bad or it's possible that there could be debris blocking the air from getting to the pressure sensor, one or the other appears to be your issue.

Are these new TPMS sensors, you appear to be at the 10 year TPMS sensor battery lifespan, for an '08?

Could a sensor have been damaged during your recent tire install?

For some reason, I had to re-upload my (Dill) TPMS sensor IDs to the ECU this week, been working fine for a couple months. :clock:
 
My TPMS light has been flashing lately. I'm pretty sure they are original as I've never replaced them (I bought my rig in '10). Anyway, it's too bad the module (under the glovebox) isn't compatible with those sensors that are external (valve caps), at least the battery/sensor can be replaced easily.

Or am I wrong? (about programming external sensor to the factory TPMS)?
 
Jumping the TPMS wire and disabling the system was the best thing I've done to my 09. I even taught my girlfriend to read a tire gauge, she checks the air pressure once a month.
 
Yeah... I'd definitely just disable the factory TPMS and replace it with an external one. I just did it today when my external TPMS system came. $43, which is basically the same amount it would have cost to have the broken TPMS sensor in my spare replaced, and now I have a digital readout of every tire's pressure and temp. I'm sure it's of questionable reliability, but at the price, I don't really care if it breaks in a year.
