Another transmission thread!

I've searched, but I can't seem to find the right terms? I have an '06 V8 that I've owned since new with 106K. While it does seem to downshift hard when coming to a stop, it also gets hung up at higher RPMs(2500 or so) about 50-60mph. If I shift to neutral and back to D, the RPMs go back to what I would consider "normal". It was suggested to disconnect the battery for 10 minutes, which I tried. Any ideas?

You need to specify what you mean by 'hung up'. Is it refusing to downshift or upshift? Have you looked at the datastream for TCM?

The 4th generation V8 is geared such that when the torque converter is in lockup, at highway speeds, you may be barely above 2000RPM. I don't remember ratios off hand as I have never seen one of these transmissions fail.

If you don't have a scan tool, try this, if the issue is for "lower than expected RPM": When the RPM is low, foot still on the gas, tap the brake pedal enough to make the lights turn on momentarily. This will force the torque converter out of lockup and the RPM will jump a few hundred RPM. A few seconds later (assuming light load), it should then re-enter lockup and the RPM's should go back down. If this is the case, then lockup appears to be working correctly.

Now at highway speed cycle between D and 4 on the shifter. Does it change gears back and forth? The 4-5 shift (when put back in 'D') should be pretty quick at light loads, and the 5-4 kickdown should be immediate at any speed this vehicle is safely capable of.

Hey, thanks so much for the reply. I don't have access to the data stream. Yet. So it's basically staying at a higher than expected RPM, in the 2300-2500 range at cruising (60-70mph) speed. I'll put it in neutral and back into D and it corrects itself (1500-1800RPM). (If that makes sense?) It definitely shifts gears with no problem, though it does have that "clunk" feeling when it downshifts coming to a stop. I doubt it's a failure if the transmission. Just seems like an adjustment is necessary? Thanks again for your help.
