Another Tundra Coil Question

I tried the search but came up empty handed. I am looking to pick up a set of the Tundra coils from a 2000 for my lift, yellow/yellow and yellow/blue, with the Blistens for $200.00. My only concern is that the truck has 200K on it. How much would that affect the ride? I know the Tundra weighs considerably more than the 4runner but would that amount of miles had made the shock settle more and ride better or would it be just the opposite and I would be better off keep looking?

On the same note, I have a top plate spacer for them already from a spacer kit. Will I be sitting level or a least have a small rake if I use a set of OME 890 or 891 with some Blistens in the rear? Or is the top plate not even needed?
Thanks for the input.

If this has been covered I’d be happy to read on my own.

Yes, it's a 1/4 spacer. I guess if the shocks already have 200K on them it really wouldn't be worth getting the complete assembled from coils just to take them apart and buy new ones.

Yeah, I wouldn't be buying those with that gype of mileage. Better to go with something with a lot less mileage or toytech

Yeah for $200 you should be getting some lower mileage shocks and coils. I found some on craigslist for $110 shipped and they have lower mileage KYB shocks on them. I'm sure the coils would be fine with our vehicle, but you would want new shocks and that's going to add another 150 to that price. Good luck though.

Bringing this post back alive because I now think I am ready to go. I ended up finding a set of the TRD springs with the Blistens from an 06 with 45,000 miles for $100. They didn't come assembled or with top hats for that matter. Here are my remaining questions:

1.) Can I use some top hats from a T4R assembly or do they need to be Tundra top hats? On the same note if I use a top plate I assume it needs to match the top hat. Tundra top hat = Tundra top plate spacer, 4runner = 4runner top plate spacer etc. What size spacer will I need for the most lift. I assume the 1 inch top plate with the longer studs for the Tundra top hat and whatever the largest is for the 4runner without pre-loading the coils?

2.) Most people seem to be running the Blisten 5100 with the Tundra coils but I assume the factory Blisten will work just fine. I don't want to shell out more if I don't have to. Any know problems running them?

3.) I will be running the OME 890s in the rear with either ProComp 9000 or Nitro Charger 60028, haven't decided yet. Will I need trim packers for the rear. I thought I read I would need 20 mm on the drivers and passengers side to give a little rake or even ride level. Is that correct?

Anything else I seem to be missing?

You use the stock 4runner top plates so no need for the Tundra top plates. You will need the Tundra isolator, which I think is at wheelers offroad. For a spacer you can go with a 1" or the 1/2" toytec spacer, which will get you ~ 3/4" extra lift. Fightman will chime in and he as a spacer.

2.) Most people seem to be running the Blisten 5100 with the Tundra coils but I assume the factory Blisten will work just fine. I don't want to shell out more if I don't have to. Any know problems running them?

A lot of people use the stock billies and I will be using some KYB shocks that were on mine. It is fine to use the stock shocks, but with the 5100's you don't need any spacers. Also some people say the stock billies are too stiff for our vehicles.

You shouldn't need trim packers, but you may want to pick up 1 or 2 just in case. They are only $9 so why not. Some people get a solid 3" out of their 890's, but weight in the back will matter.

Anything else I seem to be missing?

Just an update. Pics of the tundra coils and springs. A little rust on them but nothing to worry about.

Where can I get these Tundra isolators you speak of? I have looked all over Wheelers and came up empty handed.

Where does everybody find Tundra coils?!?! I cant find a set for the life of me. I have been searching like crazy!

I found these by accident. I was searching the Craigslist ad and the guy was actually selling a Tundra leveling kit. I asked him if he still had the coils and springs. We agreed on $100.00 and that was that.

I found them using searchtempest.com. I use the search terms "tundra shocks," "tundra coils," "tundra springs" and "tundra struts." Alse have bought a pair using car-part.com. You have to search for a little while and make some calls.

I bought new Tundra TRD coils from shoptrd.com for $255 shipped. I tried to buy some used ones at the wrecking yard but they kept telling me to call back since they had not parted out the truck yet. They wanted $55 per front assembly making it around $110+ tax assuming the passenger right assembly wasn't damaged which they insisted was toast. After tax, I'm looking at around $130 or so which to me isn't worth it anymore because A) I don't know where the coils have been and B) The effort to compress and disassemble the used assemblies will cost me 2 hours in itself.

Wheelers has the Tundra isolators for $14 + shipping. I got mine in the mail the other day. The my tundra coils should be shipping any day now. I'm going to pair my coils with Tundra 5100's which I already got.

I used the Toytec Top plate spacer that came with my spacer lift. I believe it was a 1/2" spacer, and got it from this kit: 3" Lift Kit w/spacers, rear OME coils, & diff-drop kit - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

I had the Toytec kit for about a year, and decided to upgrade to the Tundra setup. Once I had bought the Tundra Struts, I decided to keep the top plate spacer, and sell the lift as a 2.5" front / 3" rear lift.....The Tundra stuff had cost me $325.00....I sold the Toytec leftovers for $250.00 .....so the Tundra setup only cost me $75.00!

I've been running the stock billies that came off a totalled Tundra. They ride fine, not too stiff, and a heck of alot better than it did with the 4Runner's stock setup with a coil pack spacer in there!

I can't say for sure, but I think you'll be fine without the trim packers. However, like SCRunner said.....I'd get them just in case it doesn't sit level. I know that with my 8 wraps, it sits with a rake....but they are at least 1/2" taller than the 890's.......

Anything else I seem to be missing?

Make sure you buy the diff drop....if you have a 4WD.....cheap insurance!

I'm wanting to use my stock shocks....will this affect my down travel? Not that it would be an issue for me and the kind of wheeling I do but I'd like to know.

The stock shocks I was referring to were the stock Tundra shocks. I don't suggest you use the stock 4runner shocks with the Tundra coils.

I thought stock shocks were good with even the taller springs Toytec sells. I haven't looked at lifting my truck for a long time so I'm kinda out of the loop and don't remember for sure.

Stock shocks will limit your travel and won't be valved to match the Tundra coils. I've heard of people using the 4runner 5100's and they were too soft (it think it was too soft) for the coils. You can get a pair of used y/b billies that came originally from the tundra set up pretty cheap off craigslist. I've seen just the shocks for ~$10-20.

After a long search on Wheelers site I came up empty handed (I literally looked at every link) so I decided to give them a call about the Tundra coil isolators. They told me that there was a very good chance they weren't on the website. If you are looking for them and placing an order just include it in the memo of the order and they will be added. The run roughly $7.00 each.
