Another "what's that noise" question

Okay, my '03 has been making a strange (to me) noise for a couple years (at least) now. When cold, I hear a Werrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, noise when decelerating. It's not high pitched like I'd expect a pinion bearing to be. It's not rough or "grinding" like I'd expect a wheel bearing to be. It really sounds a lot like a truck with big knobby tires sounds like driving down the road....only I have regular street tires, and it ONLY is noticeable when slowing down (though it could be there when driving, but the engine just drowns it out....I'm not sure). I guess this COULD be just the Dunlop Grand Treks....but then why wouldn't I hear this sound all the time?

So:

• Notice when decelerating at slow speeds...all the way until stop
• Even if coasting in neutral
• NOT associated with the brakes
• Kinda sounds something like monster-truck tires....only I have street tires
• Been going on for a couple years....more noticeable in winter
• Differential is filled with 85w-90
• Not electronic in nature

Thoughts? No big whoop, as it doesn't sound anything like the differential....but thought I'd throw it out there.

do you have v6 or v8? If a 6, check to see if it goes away in 4wd.

The noise of mine was very similar, for me it ended up being a wheel bearing.

Yeah I had the same sound ended up being drivers side wheel bearing. I'm just noticing the sound again so I figure the passenger side is ready to be done now.

Same here, only it was a pinion bearing.
