Antenna Suggestions?

My power antenna is dead. I'd like to just replace with a flexible rubber one so this doesn't happen again.

Any suggestions? I''ll gladly buy through an affiliate link. I just want a good one that isn't power, and can make it thru car washes.

I know its not quite what you mean, but I just shoved an aluminum Arrow into mine. Works great, but may not do too well in a car wash...

Search "Tacoma whip mod"

Many people replace their power antenna with the flexible Tacoma antenna.

holy crap, i'm no where near handy enough to do that, is there just an easy antenna i can screw in and call it a day?

Sorry. No easy fix. The antenna wire plugs into the back of the radio.

Whether you buy an OEM replacement or other, you have to run the wire to the back of the radio.

You can repair your current power antenna with a new Teflon cord but it will be hard without uninstalling it... which means pulling the antenna wire from the back of the radio.

I think some folks have tried to cut the existing antenna wire and splice it into a new antenna, but I bet the quality is bad.

The DIY isn't that tough.

Glove box comes out easy. Getting the radio trim off is the hard part but doable.

The bolded part is wrong. You can remove the motor and do what you want to it WITHOUT pulling the wire out. The connection at the motor can be undone. BTDT.

My antenna wouldn't move more than a few inches out, and then wouldn't retract.

I went to the stealership, paid around $20 for the plastic tooth geared part, and replaced it myself in like 10 minutes. This has been a few years ago so I am sadly lacking in details, but I know for sure I didn't have to do anything inside the truck.

update, just called my local dealership, they are ordering the replacement part so i can get rid of the power antenna, it costs $73.59, i'll then buy the rubber antenna to screw into it

i'll have car toys install it when i'm having them replace my heat unit
