Any 4th gens that actually used an extended warranty?

I purchased the 6yr/100K plan today. That gives me another 4 years and 65K miles of coverage for $700. Given the current economy, I just don't want to risk expensive repairs. I have several hundred $ for the warranty today, but might not have a few grand lying around 2 years from now if something major goes wrong.

That said, I only went with it because it's Toyota's own plan - I would never do a 3rd party warranty. And, like my last T4R, I plan to keep her as long as she runs.

Smart move. I have a few friends who are automotive techs at various dealerships.
They are always telling me stories about people who have third party warranties and the problems that go with them.
Biggest headache for the tech is getting the warranty company to approve the repair (Can take several hours which means sometimes the repair takes more than one day.)
Biggest headache for the owner is paying for the repair since the 3rd party warranty does not always cover the cost of the repair.
That usually happens when the warranty company provides for less $$$ per hour than the shop charges or less hours than the book calls for.
In that case, the customer is told and is billed for the difference.

For me the Toyota extended warranty was the way to go.

You guys DO REALIZE that toyota's extended warranty, and warranty is not of Toyota's own. But a third party that they contract out with. As well as the dealer. You just pay a markup for it.

Went through a huge mess before with factory warranty, and extended warranty etc.etc.

I've used my extended warranty twice now. Both for rear end work that totaled well over $3000 and each repair took two weeks which they paid for my rental.

Well worth it in my case (paid $800 at the dealer) and I recommend them to any used car buyer. Most people dont realize how much you can talk them down at the dealership for these warranties. My guy started at $1800 and I still over paid at $800 for the 100k 3yr full coverage from Toyota which I probably could have paid 600 for.

The dealers in Atlanta all wanted 1200 for the warranty - no budge. Even after I bought the truck. Bought the one from Shaun for half that and it works even though not bought from the Toyota SE distributor.

You want to watch out for some of the 3rd party warranty companies. They have a way of paying big bucks to their executives and then declaring bankruptcy (it's legal !)

The Toyota warranty is "serviced" by a 3rd party company and they do not seem to have any incentive to think up reasons to refuse a repair that the dealer agrees with. They do the paperwork and validation for several different companies that provide warranties.

Going in for my 3rd door lock motor soon - on the rear door this time. Expensive for what it is.

I don't know what warranty you're referring to, but I think most of us are describing the ones issued by Toyota Financial Services. In my specific case, it would be described here: http://www.toyotafinancial.com/cons...=true&_pageLabel=pg_UsedVehicleProtectionPlan

I haven't had to use it yet, but having purchased a used vehicle with 58K miles, I thought it was a good investment, even at the hyperinflated price the dealer charged for it.

As far as I know, Toyota requires that this warranty be purchased from the dealer at the time of vehicle purchase, so I didn't want to risk an issue if there was ever a claim. Also, if I go the term of the warranty without making a claim, I get my $ back.

In Georgia and the Southeast states, the standard Toyota extended warranty that Shaun sells isn't sold through dealers, although I'm told that it is honored. The Toyota dealers around here sell a plan that is managed through Southeast Toyota Distribution (or whatever they are called). The financial folks at my local dealer said it is because of an exclusive agreement that Southeast Toyota has with Toyota. Can anyone offer more clarity on this for me?

I bought the extended warranty because of the 4 wheel drive diff's and auto tranny. When I worked at a dealership, we never had many come in with non-user error problems so that made me feel somewhat comfortable, but, better safe than sorry.

Shaun's is a Toyota Financial Services warranty - all the books and cards have the Toyota logos. The 800 number is manned by Autocare Northeast who provide a Visa card number to the dealer for the charges. It's honored at any Toyota dealer in the U.S. maybe other places too <?>
