Any body else with Anthracite Metallic?

Am the third owner of this 96 SR5. Purchased it at 156k, now at 175k and running strong. Want to keep this indefinitely to see the day it reaches beyond 200k/300k. It has the black/plastic trip for the fenders and black/painted bumpers vice chrome. Would like to switch it out with the chrome trim/bumpers.

The paint job is faded entirely on the roof and partially on the hood. Am looking to get a paint job soon, not sure if I'll go the cheap route with Maaco/Earl Sheib or find a reputable private shop.

My dads friend did it, he does it as a side business. It was about a 4 week experience, because we couldnt give him the car all at one time because we need both cars. We payed about 1000 for the basic paint job. it is supposed to only last 4-6 years, but im trying my best to keep it waxed all of the time with the florida sun.

Faded Hood/Roof

Anyone else experience a highly faded/oxidized hood and roof with your Anthracite 4Runner? I've lived in middle TN and Gulf Coast AL, and every Anthracite 4Runner I see has the same issues with the hood/roof as mine does.

The roof and hood of mine oxidized real bad also. I had only the top half of my runner repainted. The guy gave me a gray pinstripe (same color as the cladding) to blend the colors. I wonder why only the anthracite runners have this problem.

But anyways here she is...

horrible clear coat failure!!

I do not have a picture readily available, but the clear coat on mine is terrible. It started with the roof and has spread like cancer to the hood and it appears to be making its way to the front fenders. I love my 4Runner, but I am not about to spend a couple thousand to get it repainted. 1997, 203K, and paid off. It will soon be the trail/fun vehicle.

I wonder why only the anthracite runners have this problem.

I don't know, but I suspect its why Toyota dropped the color after '98.

IMO Anthracite Limiteds had the best color combo the 3rd gens were offered in...

AWESOME THREAD. I love that color, and might go for that if I can get a good deal on a paint job next spring.

Ryani, did you paint your trim black or is that the standard dark metallic grey? I can't tell from the picture but it looks black. I also have an Anthracite limited that I am considering painting the trim with that Krylon bed liner spray can paint. it will make it flat black with a slight texture. I plan on taking off my running boards today.

ichambers, looking good! I like the wheels, too!

Here's mine. Just picked it up this past weekend. Same paint issues mentioned above... Peeling all over the top and starting on the hood. Anyway to slow that peel from spreading further?
