Any Car Alarm Guru's out there?

Hello, so I have a 96 4runner with an aftermarket alarm system. It's a DEI Rattler 300.

Recently I changed the battery as the car was having a hard time starting up. After I changed the battery I ran into some issues. The car would still not start very well, so I took it in to have the starter and alternator checked. They all checked out great.

However tech noticed that the car will not start with the door closed. The weird thing is if you open any door the car will start. Also, the funny thing is when I turn on my headlights the alarm system chirps randomly and goes off.

I also noticed that the "brain" to the alarm system makes a clicking noise every so often. The key fob does not arm or disarm the vehicle either and does nothing. I finally removed power to the alarm system but the problems still persists.

Anyone out there who would know anything about these type of alarms? Is it salvageable or should I just remove it and put everything back together?

it looks like ground wire issue, check black wire coming from alarm unit to chassis.
You can also try reprogram system.

I checked that connection and it was fine. Hasn't changed when I installed the new battery.

Can the brain be reset if I unplug it and completely and plug it back in? Any other ideas it could be?

Yes alarm module can be reset by battery disconnecting. I have similar problem with my remote starter after battery disconnecting it start working improperly ( starting engine and then after 5sec. turn it off). In my case I don't know brand of module and I don't have any fob for RS module (it remote start by pressing 3 times close button on my oem fob).
You should try reprogram Yours system ( see link on previous post)

Well took everyone's advice. Also ended up checking and double checking all wires. Still no luck. So I removed it. Alarm lasted 16 years on my rig. Got it installed at Circuit City when it still existed for those of you who know about them!

Do you have one of these? Work well? Easy to install? I guess the only thing I don't like is carrying that big pin key in my pocket.

Is there a fuse on the alarm controller brain? If so, just replace it for sh!ts and giggles.
