5speed transmission. The A750F is nearly identical to the a760F - shares the same gear train. Toyota builds a 6 speed but only gives us 5 of the gears to use. WTF Toyota? why didn't you update the valve set to make it a 6AT. The cost difference is nearly zero. Give us 6 gears and 4.30 diffs. That's what it should have. Cost is a non-issue. I don't understand this choice.

Very much agree with this! The Prado has had a 6-speed auto linked to the 4.0 since like 2015-16 and as serious as everyone says Toyota is about CAFE, the best they can muster is equipping a feel-fuzzy-ECO-leaf and a communist throttle map program. They couldn't even empower us with an ECT button as that would deplete the world of fossil fuels before the debut of the next generation Tundra.

I'm starting to think that incremental improvements are no longer part of Toyota's practice in their products.

‘15 Trail with premium interior. Had temp setting on my 4th gen SR5 so I was surprised to not have it on a newer truck and higher-priced trim package.

If you get the Off Road Premium it has a lot of the options of the early 200 series Cruisers like KDSS and ATRAC. It’s pretty much a mini Land Cruiser for half the price and a nice alternative.

I have an ORP. I was just commenting on how everyone wants all the off-road capabilities retained, but tons luxury items and electronics included, and the towing capacity of an F-350, and the V8 of a Ferrari, but it’s already too heavy so also make it lighter while they’re at it. You can’t get the best of all worlds for the price of a 4Runner. Want luxury? Get a highlander. Want off-road? Get a 4Runner. Want them both? Shell out $90k+ for a land cruiser or other ultra premium SUV.

Oh, and about dust piling up on the back. That’s how physics and airflow work guys. It happens to all flat surfaces on the rear of vehicles. Toyota can’t do anything about it.

2010 SR5. No major problems but a few things that have bothered me:

- the "paint" has worn off the inside door handle on the driver's side

- the moldy smelling air conditioning (I think I know how to fix that now)

- the water that drips from the roof on the driver's seat when I open the door

- used to dislike the storage bin (too big and deep) between the two front seats but I bought a tray from Amazon so it's fine now. Just ordered something similar for the glove box

- the cruise control doesn't work that great on hill roads.

Overall it's been great and would buy another one in a flash (but hope to drive this one for another 10 years). It's been very reliable and great to drive.

I'm with you on the auto headlights... I have a 2017, no vehicle should NOT have auto headlights in 2019.


I also dislike that the tailgate is a dirt/dust magnet.

No Auto headlights or auto anything please! Personally, I cant stand headlights on during bright sunny day. Auto things suck and broke the deal for me with GX 460’s automatic rain sensing wipers which Im grateful for to save $20,000 and have my all Auto-Free Trail.

I don't own one yet but having test driven one, and been on many trails with friends who own one, I'd say my biggest issues are with the halogen lights, no automatic light modes, and push button start..Haven't driven it long enough to notice drawbacks with the 5 speed auto. The HID lights will be the first upgrade I do when I pick mine up in a couple of months.

Although I'm not happy with the stock infotainment system it is something that we would very rarely use (besides just a bluetooth connection to the phone or iPad). My wife has a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee and I don't even remember the last time I played around with U-Connect. We use our phone 99% of the time so it doesn't really matter much..I will however swap out the speakers in the front and the back to improve the sound quality as it is not something that is great even for this price point..

Needs a 6th gear at the minimum soooo badly. Highway cruising is miserable IMHO. Gas mileage is acceptable, but not great. Love the ride, hated the stock suspension.

I forget to turn on the headlights in my sr5 sometimes. The Limited has auto lights. That should be standard. I know I can leave the lights and hit the lock twice but I don't like using the fob. I will motor on, in the dark.

The key to managing a/c smells is to turn off the a/c (but keep the fan blowing) 5 minutes before you shut off the engine. This will help mitigate any moisture from collecting and condensing in the system which is what mold/mildew needs to flourish.

If you've ever owned a VW or Audi, a smelly a/c is practically a factory installed option, because outside air flow through the vents is very restricted in those cars. I was so pleased to feel a strong air flow through the vents when I got my 4Runner.

Here's a nitpick: On my TRDOR the "double click" to unlock the rest of the doors (one click to unlock the drivers door only) on the key fob is sensitive to timing.

You can get the dealer to program the car to open all doors on one click.

Though I would add that this should be a driver set up option in the menus without needing to go to a dealer....

Honestly, auto headlights. Why does a base model corolla get it, but not ours.

Other creature comforts that are available in higher trims incl: sunroof and heated seats. I didn't think I "needed" them when I bought the thing.

Why not just leave them in the on position at all times? Kinda negates the need for auto headlights.

I have HIDs and I dont like having to power up everything at once. To your point, why have DRL option? Why have a radio on/off button when you can turn volume down? Why have cruise control if when you can maintain your foot at a specific angle?

We pay for creature comforts. It definitely wasnt a deal breaker. After all I still bought it and drive it every day. All I'm saying is that a $0.10 piece that is standard in a base model $15k vehicle of the same make is a dumb thing for them to do.

2019 TRDOR here.

I want to start off with, I love my 4Runner. I'm a huge fan of the LC Prado, and wishing I could get it here. This is as close as I can get, unless I got the Lexus which I don't want.

However, I've found a few things I don't like.

My brakes rattle over bumps, it's a LOUD metal against metal noise. I've added grease, another anti rattle clip on the top AND had the dealership look at it and try their way which all failed.

The brakes are mushy, mushy, mushy - but I knew that going in. Not a *huge* deal, you get used to it. I am starting to kind of like it now, oddly enough.

The steering wheel gets a LOT of feedback from the road, from the engine vibrations and every pothole or uneven surface kicks the steering wheel pretty hard. I've always had rack and pinion steering, and my first car was hydraulic but my last pickup truck was electric and I guess I can feel the pump working in addition to everything else. It's a truck, so if you like feedback and not the numb feeling, you'll love this.

The biggest thing I HATE HATE HATE and makes me regret it every time I get on the highway is the steering input required. At 65 MPH+ I have to input steering to keep center lane or it drifts like nuts. It doesn't pull to one side or anything, I just have to keep moving the wheel a tiny bit left, right, left, right, left, right... It is tiring on my commute to work, and I HATE IT so much. I've NEVER had a vehicle track so poorly.

Last thing, and I don't know if it's doing it itself or if I am maybe bumping it on my way out of the vehicle... but the drivers seat back reclines on its own overnight. It's SO WEIRD. I am the only person who lives in my house, it is parked in my garage and my keys are by my bed and I know no one is going out there and messing with it. I'll get in and the dang seat is halfway reclined... like really?


I've listed some not so great, so let me list some great ones.

I love the height, for a mid size it's great. I love the look, very utilitarian. I love the 4wd lever in my TRDOR, I love my cloth seats very comfy. More than anything, though. I've come to love the fact that there are so many options for the 4Runner. It has so much possibility. You can make it whatever you want. The possibilities are endless.


Every vehicle is mechanical, you never know what issue you'll get. It's not a huge deal, though. It's a Toyota which means even clunking down the road, it'll get you from point A to B over any terrain, and in one piece and reliably.
