If you are not going to put a real hid kit in.. meaning the clips and stuff... go for the rebased ones. Most of them will be that anyways. rebased just means that its the HID bulbs with a 9006 base so you don't have to modify anything else.
My ballast + bulbs = Denso/Philips (Toyota/Lexus factory)
xenondepot = popular.

It is the H11 HID kit, which is the type of bulb the projector lamps uses. They are not a rebased kit to 9006, but an H11 Kit
What are theses clips you speak?
The Silverstars are only going in the high-beam and the fog lamps. The low beams will be the above HID kit from Xenondepot
From my understanding, the Xenondepot kit comes with bulbs, ballasts, and a harness.
Sorry, but I know nothing about HIDS, except I miss them from my Audi

If they take 9006, then get the 9006 kit
I thought they were actual HIDs and not the "plug and play" ones. All "plug and play" kits are rebased.
EDIT: You're right. Get the H11 kit for your 2006 4runner. I just did a search for what bulbs the 06 takes. The H11 kit that your getting is rebased so it'll fit right in. Remember to take some pictures of the results (cutoff).

Oh ok, then I guess I am getting rebased HIDS.
The stock low-beam bulb in the 06's is the H11. That is what the projector lamps use. I got that info. from my owners manual.
So I am getting the H11 HID kit.
I am assuming a dealer would not install these. Know anybody in the Bay Area, CA that could install for me?

The ballast is something that takes the most time.. and that's like 5 minutes. The ballast (square-ish metal box) needs to be secured in the engine bay. Is this buzzing sound heard from inside the vehicle, and does it go away right after the lights fire up? My Audi didn't make any noise when turning them on.

When you refer to "actual HID headlights", are you talking about bulbs, the casing, or the whole assembly piece, or the socket part?
Does that mean that the stock H11 bulbs have a differnet way of connecting to the socket from how the HID H11 bulbs connect?
If they are an H11 bulb, shouldn't they have the same type of connection method? Other wise, it isn't a true "plug & play"
By "tabs" I am assuming you mean you have to plug the bulb in and turn it to lock the tabs?
I don't think I am going to be able to install this myself.
That kit you referenced has additional parts to add from the first kit no? it adds 2 non-conductive ballast enclosures. They both say they are plug & play and that they fit OEM factory harness. They also use different bulbs.
I know these probably sound like lame questions, but I really have no clue.
I wish this could all be done by the dealer, then it would be a true pay & play.
Here is another question for you, do you loss your auto off feature if you do this kit?
The philips kit that you bought or going to buy from xenon depot is a true plug and play so you don't have to worry. bulb goes into the your stock socket. the bulbs plug into your ballast and from your ballast, there will be a wire that plugs into your stock socket for the power. Also that kit comes with a relay. Which means that you only have to plug one of the wires from the hid ballast and then it'll connect straight to your battery. And yes you'll still have your auto-on and auto-off. HOpe it helps. Contact steve from xenondept, he'll have instructions and pictures. If not go to clublexus.com and go the gx forum and you'll find all of the info on there about the philips kit. Detailed instructions on how to install it as well

After much research, I chose XenonDepot for the HIDs on my 06. I have been happy so far and I think most others have been, as well. Do a search and you'll find my post on review and install of my kit. (my previous user name was T4Runner06). Good luck.
D2S bulb conversions
I want to try and use the Toyota OEM Denso ballasts and was wondering if anyone has had any luck finding a conversion bracket for the D2S bulbs to the H11 socket? I've read on other forums that people have take a H11 bulb and used a dremel to retrofit the D2S bulb but can't seem to find a conversion bracket (found a bracket for the H7).
My other option would be to pick up the ballasts and then a rebased bulb and a wire conversion set....which I kinda don't want to do...mine as well buy a rebased kit with this option.

Just for reference a true HID bulb is a D2R or D2S. These are OEM fitment HID capsules. Anything other, 9003, 9004, 9006, 9007, h1, h3, h7, h11 are all rebased capsules. The only thing to be careful of as far as the basing is concerned is to ensure the capsule is straight in the base....and capsule off center will result in diminished lighting where you need it. I cant imagine why anyone would pay $350+ for a plug and play HID kit. You can buy a Bosch, Bohmen, or McCulloch HID kit for about $200 on ebay and many vendors offer free bulb replacements and everything. I've bought 2 kits and never had a problem. Just buy a real brandname like I listed. And with HID you dont want 6000K+....you want to shoot for 4300 as thats typical OEM, and its the spectrum where the human eye sees the most light. The higher kelvin ratings make more color, and the human eye cannot discern color from light in the high K range. Do some research, shop around, and be happy. Hope my info is a little useful.
