I posted the earlier post of a 90' 4runner that wont shift into high forward gears with no reply. I am in a situation where I absolutely have to get this vehicle on the road again asap. I am a fairly good mechanic and any response would probably help. While driving down the road it shift out of O/D into what acted like nuetral, The shifter stay'd in d though. It still drives forward and backwards with absolutely no slipping. It just wont shift out of first gear into second third or o/d. It has had regular fluid and filter changes and at this point has good fluid condition considering its due for a change. I need to know if theres any way I can narrow down this problem from it being " the tranny is burned up". I need to figure out if There are any sensors, plugs, grounds, or any other engine sensors that may coinside with the trans operation. I have rebuild many old chevy and ford rigs but have never messed with a toyota other than doing intake and valve cover gaskets in my wife's 93 camry. I have rebuilt a few th350's and 700r4 trans. So if anyone out there may know where to find an expert or a manual for rebuilding the toyoa A340H trans please let me know. Thanks for any replies! BTW I am in alaska and the cheapest place i could find to rebuild this trans was about $2500 and the best used one I could find was 100,000mi. deep and the salvage yard wanted $1500 for it. I am more than prepared to rebuild this trans if I could find a manual for the job.
