New addition to keep my Specialized Stumpjumper hardtail company.
Trek "The Rig" 29'er
Single speed
Fox Front fork
20T rear gear
XL frame

I have been riding single speed on my Stumpjumper since I tore my rear derailleur off crossing a tree. I liked it so much thatafter I got my Other bike fixed I bought this one. Riding style is totally different from one bike to the next.

Funny how you have to ride so different from one bike to the next. Going from my hard tail 29er to my FS 26er requires a completely different method of riding. I hammer everywhere on the 29er while I have to sit in the saddle and keep a steadier cadence on the FS.

Exactly. The singlespeed is a blast to ride but there are no compromises. You absolutely cannot ride it as you would my geared bike. You have to hit the climbs hard and stay with it all the way to the top. I can tell you that if you are going to ride singlespeed you have no choice but to be (or get) in shape. I joke that my Specialized 29'er geared is my 4X4 pickup truck and the Trek 29'er singlespeed is the unlimited class trophy truck lol. You don't descend or ride flats any faster but you have no choice but to climb faster! The Fox front fork is sweet too.

I'm not doing anything faster at the moment. Between working 30 of 31 days and my daughter being born on Friday, my cycling time has been limited! We definitely need to meet up for a ride this fall when I get things settled.

ive got a 2012 scott elite 29er. great bike got it a few months ago to replace my giant xtc 26. once u go 29er ur not going to want to go back. also have a 1996 trek 9600 and a 1997 cannondale silk road. did my first century on the cannondale a months ago.

I have a nice abrasion from my belly button to my sternum and several scratches.

It is a pretty thing. I got out for around 1.5 hrs before my wife had to go to work. Weather was great but very slick out. Rode some new trails that were cut over the winter and had a grand Ol' time. No wrecks, thankfully.

Chicks dig scars. Well, mine doesn't but I get them anyway.

I can't believe I'm just now stumbling into this thread - great to see all the other bikers on here! I'm slowly-but-surely getting excited for this summer's bikeventures (winter is my favorite season though)... I have all sorts of intentions, but the only thing planned thus far is 24 Hours In the Sage in Gunnison, CO. Let me know if there are any Denver people who'd be up for meeting up to ride once the trails dry out!

i wish i could use my old 2x4 with the bike quick release mounts..unfortunately its a lefty and PITA to get the front wheel off. plus i'm 6'1" and the seatpost is too tall and again..not a quick release so i just gave up and use a bike mount.

my road bike, ironcially..fits great using the standard cargo hook (bungie from that over my bike top tube to back of seat headrest)..gotta shoot you a pic..works grea.t

I think this summer I'm finally going to pull the trigger and get a seat dropper, but otherwise there's no way I could fit my bike in without a quick release - and I'm barely 5'10"!

They do make a fork mount thing for lefty's too... taking the wheel off is a pain, but I prefer to have the bike in the cabin of my truck. If I were to get a rack though, it'd be a Northstar rack ($$$!!!)

I'm going to be buying a mountain bike in 1 or 2 months. I ride an old trek 820 currently on very light trails. I am considering either a trek 4300 or specialized rockhopper. I am pretty much a beginner. Any opinions on the 2 bikes? or maybe suggestions of other bikes?
