Any new choices for Horn Upgrade?

Just looking to see if anyone has any bolt in ready to go horn upgrades they have done. Thinking of replacing the ones in my '12. I was thinking about this one from Hella...

Anyone got any other input? I know its not a THAT hard to wire in one of the relay's but I would like to try and NOT do one of those.

OP - The OEM horns are 400hz & 500hz, so you won't really be changing much with the kit you linked.

i installed a set of the same horns i had in my dodge durango, Mopar Oem in place of the stock horns, no relays, then relayed a pair of stebel nautilus truck horns. Works well!

It's loud, but Hornblasters has louder. It's certainly not as loud as a firetruck or ambulance. I'm not the sort who holds down the horn, but most people have one of two reactions to it. They instinctively jerk away from the noise, which is very helpful when they are wrongfully invading my lane. Or they freeze, cringe, and get out of the way. The only other reaction comes from 'tards in front of me on their phone when the light goes green and their head is still down at the screen. A short toot usually results in a sudden head jerk up, they go, and give me the finger.

The Fiamm "Freeway Flyers" are some genuinely fantastic horns. I adore that horn. My dad has it on his truck and tried to convince me to put one on my truck as well. As I said, I like it, but I wouldn't like to have it on my truck. I would like to find something weird for my truck, so the entire neighbourhood knows it's me when I arrive home. I found some great horns on hornblasters.com. My brother bought a couple from them, and he told me they have an incredible variety of products. He chose one of the weirdest horns I ever heard.

I wired in hella Supertones directly without any relay. Definitely get peoples attention with them. I’ve had them for 4+ years and no issues.

This is what I’d get and I’m actually in the same boat and looking to replace the stock horn. I’d run it as a stand alone as my neighbours wouldn’t be happy to have this ties to the alarm system lol

Sorry about the delayed response. Factory horns are 400hz & 500hz. The PIAA Superior Bass are 400hz & 330hz. So you absolutely get a lower tone with them. Since I installed mine in conjunction with the Hornblowers Musket I can't speak to how they sound on their own. Most horns I researched were in the 120-125db range. That doesn't sound like much difference, but remember the decibel scale is logarithmic, 120db is 10x more powerful than 110db. Legally Dept of Transportation limits the loudness of a horn, so I really doubt you'd be able to find anything in the 130db range. However, frequency makes a difference. I might be wrong on this next part, but it's how I understand it. Given a lower frequency tone at the same decibel as a higher frequency tone, while both are below 1000hz, the higher frequency tone will seem louder. So going from a 120db horn at 400 & 500hz to a 120db horn at 330 & 400hz, the former will seem louder even though it measures the same decibel rating. But we all know that the lower tone horn is what we all like to hear.

I put a Stebel Nautilus on one of my motorcycles years ago and it was excellent. It's the same thing as a Wolo Nautilus. It is dual note horn that puts out 530Hz and 680Hz at 139dB. It sounds like a boat horn which I imagine is how it gets the Nautilus name. It definitely grabs attention and I saved my skin more times than I can count while on my bike. I eventually moved it to '66 Dodge car I had that didn't have a horn when I bought it. It is direct wire to the factory wires, no relay needed.

FWIW, a lower pitched or frequency horn will travel further but is less likely to be heard while a higher pitch will be heard more easily at the target audience of "the person immediately adjacent to you". It's why a fog horn is very low but a boat horn is much higher. Fog horns have to travel miles to warn of impending danger, boats (as in small craft or pleasure craft, not a large ship whistle) typically only need their horn while navigating in and around other craft in a harbor, etc.

I went ahead and pulled the trigger and replaced my stocks with just the PIAA Superior Bass ones, and it is a marked improvement. It has more of what a truck should feel like, I mean it's not an earth shattering difference but it is definitely deeper. I'm more than happy with the upgrade. Thanks for the idea!

i don't have a problem with the 5th gen... coming from the 3rd gen 4runners which were way worse... they were meep meep!
