Came from a F-350 super duty diesel to a t4r and it was a big mistake.

Just curious why your so disappointed, I came from an almost identical truck. My needs had changed and I no longer needed the towing power and was approaching the mileage threshold where some of the emission equipment began requiring some expensive repairs.

There's no doubt that your missing 200+ hp while behind the wheel of the 4runner and the ability to tow just about anything is gone but the reliability is a huge improvement along with fuel costs. I'd say the t4r does great just as it was designed, a dependable true body on frame 4x4.

I can understand what you are going through though. At one point I traded my Duramax for a Wrangler Rubicon and just couldn't get used to it. In the end a drunk totaled it and I went back to a 3/4 diesel.

Hope it works it out for you, buyers remorse when it comes to cars can really sting.

As someone who is constantly in a diesel work truck, and has to deal with the issues that the new vehicles have, I'd stay away if you are footing the bill. The EPA has destroyed diesels in the US and every truck in our fleet that has the new emissions stuff is constantly in for repairs. And they are costly.

Nothing wrong with a big gas motor 1 ton IMO. That's where I would go if I needed to tow serious weight daily.

Follow up to this thread. I did trade my 4Runner for the 2015 Denali Duramax back in October. 8,000 trouble free miles so far. The truck is beyond enjoyable to drive; I used to like driving the 4Runner but it is nothing like this. And that is no knock on the Runner, it is just that the full size truck will all amenities and gobs of power to spare is rather fun to drive.

So maybe I got a "good" one, or maybe trouble will start at some point. I'm not worried about it, and don't think I will ever go back to gas.

Towed a good handful of times. This trailer is just over 5k unloaded and if you removed the mirrors you would not know it is there.

I am close to realizing a very long dream of owning an original FJ40... it might be this one... if not, another. But very soon I'll have a Toyota again :guitar3:
