Big PC gamer here. 100+ games on Steam and a big Diablo 2 enthusiast like OP.

I'm a fan of AAA titles like Skyrim, Fallout, Tomb Raider, but I've actually had more enjoyment from smaller titles. I highly recommend anyone into PC gaming to check out these games on Steam.

And then they released Pascal in June of 2016. I built my comp in February 2016 and went with the 970. I debated waiting but Nvidia has been horrible with actual bringing there new cards to market on time. I figured I'd get at least a year before they actually released the consumer grade Pascal cards. Nope.

Have you looked at the benches of those 980's SLI'd compared to the new 1080? Moore's Law in action. lol

Yeah, I know, right!? I picked up a third 980Ti for another PC literally a month before the 10x series was released, but I guess that was my fault for not keeping up with the times. Building a new PC always seems like a gamble these days. My last build lasted about 4 years until I was tired of it, so this time around I decided to buy the best of the best for it and hope to squeeze out 5-6 years. I'm still happy with it a year and a half later, but now it's almost time to replace my three 1080p screens which are almost 4 years old. There's always something, right?

I have looked at 980Ti SLI vs a single 1080 Ti... The performance of the 980Ti's in SLI is still slightly higher than a single 1080Ti IIRC, but I'm consuming twice as much power and putting out more heat than a single would!

Tech moves way to fast to even try to be current. Unless it's your full time job and you get pro deals from the manufacturers. I built my comp knowing as soon as it was done it would be worth half as much. I'm OK with that as I think most guys that build there own rigs are. There will always be faster, lower TDP, and smaller architecture just around the corner.

People have been saying Moores Law will hit the wall for 10 years now. I bet it's got another 5 at least before starts to slow down. Nvidia just launched Max-Q cards and Intel just launched Optane memory. Both are seriously game changing. If Optane performs the way Intel plans it too it's gonna be bad ass. Basically it's a 3D stack memory that can access from the top, middle, and bottom. Latency is so low it's crazy. With there new controller chip you should be able to use some of it as RAM. Not swap, but actual dedicated RAM. Game changer.

Agreed. I read something at least a year ago saying how it was becoming difficult for Intel to maintain it's track according to Mr. Moore's predictions. I don't blame them! I haven't heard of Max-Q or Optane, but I just looked them up. Sucks for me - Optane requires the Z270 chipset and a 7th Gen chip. I bought in on the Z170 chipset and a 6th gen chip. Lol.

Other than recently, the last computer i built, was to play Diablo 2...heh.

The recent PC (GTX 1080) was built to play virtual reality shooters on the HTC Vive. Have been someone addicted to Fallout 4 VR....loved fallout 3 on the Xbox, so the virtual reality version has been pretty sweet. The game was released prematurely with quite a bit of dissapointments, but i waited to play it until the recent significant patch.

After watching 4K videos of Red Dead Redemption and GTA5 on the XBOX One X I ordered one. I took about a two year break from gaming but I'm now ready to go back.

It's going to be fun playing in 4K on my 82" TV.

I used to play Dungeons & Dragons Online, but the game is pretty antiquated now...

The only games I really enjoy now are real-time strategy games, but those are few and far between. I still long for a new release of Command & Conquer. Guess I'll just stick with Transport Tycoon...

Late to the reply here, but from my experience it's always cheaper to buy parts individually and assemble the desktop yourself. You'll save hundreds of dollars as well as learn a thing or two about computers while you're at it.


Check out Pick parts. Build your PC. Compare and share. - PCPartPicker and choose the System Builder tab.

You can use an interactive assembling process that breaks down exactly the components that are/aren't compatible with one another, and it'll also make it clear you're not forgetting anything. I still use it from time to time if I forget what's compatible with my 6 year old motherboard.

Been playing games on PC since 1991, when my dad got a desktop running Windows 3.1

Started out playing Wolfenstein 3d, Doom/Doom2, BioHazard, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Jetfighter, Chuck Yeager's Air Combat, Commander Keen, etc.

Over the years I've developed more engrossing hobbies but I still make time here and there to play a game or two. Takes me about half a year to finish a game though due to my schedule/priorities.

Right now I spend 3 to 4 hour per night playing Red Dead Redemption 2 online on my XBOX ONE X( It's a console but technically it's a specialized PC).


I have played games since playing pac-man in an arcade.

RDR2 online is the best of the best. It is fun when we get our posse together and tame the wild west. It by far has the best graphics and story-line out there since Grand Theft Auto V.

The wife and I play alot of Clash of Clans on our tablets. It's pretty fun and non linear so you can stop anytime, which is good cause I work too damned much. CoC is a real time strategy game and kinda reminds me of StarCraft or the old original Warcraft a bit before they made it an MMORPG. Nothing like owning some noobs and taking their loot on the commercial break while Netflix and chillin.
