Note to self:
Don't get interested in a Shelby. The guy who wants to bet $100k can't afford one.
Oh Lord what did I start...
Ok so late 03 and up had tubular hitches standard. I have an early 03 and it doesn't have the tubular stock hitch. Thanks all.
Really? I thought all '03 4Runners came with standard hitch receivers, V8 or V6. I see you have the unpainted cladding, which was also only on the early '03 4Runners. So maybe they started with the hitch receivers at the same time they went to painted cladding?
If the driver appears to be weeping.......it's a V6.....
He's wishing he'd held out for a V8!!!!!! :dammit:

P.S. What's REALLY sad, is that a V8 is no longer available.
Certainly don't want to hijack the thread, but the V6 jabs are old and common here.
For points of clarification from those in the 'know',... If Toyota is no longer offering a V8 in the 4Runner, shouldn't 'that' tell you something right there about how great it actually is/was?
Is Toyota going in a different direction to be 'Green Friendly'? (V8s tend to be viewed as gas hogs by the masses, which in Toyota's case, it is 'not-so-much', given miles/gal vs the V6 specs). Is it a reliability, repair, or warranty issue that made Ma' Toyota forego the V8 offering? It is certainly durable and stronger than the V6 given the additional HP and engine design. But the question remains,... Why the lack of a future offering for now?
If the debate over the lack of a V8 offering is elsewhere on the site, then kindly post the the link.:thanks:
There is no one weeping here IMHO. Any person who paid MSRP $32K-$35K back in the day, knew exactly what they were getting into with this truck,... and given that it is a Yota, I am sure they are pretty proud to drive and hold onto it. :flamewar:

... Look at the center console and take a look at the 4 wheel drive select knob. If it says 4H and 4L you have the V8. I have seen so many discrepancies with dealers posting pics of 4runners that are incorrectly labled either V8 or 4x4 based on this....

Keep in Mind that this forum is often populated by that niche market that buys these vehicles for offroad use or other uses than grocery getters and soccer mom trucks.
I'm curious about that statement, any idea what percentage of members do take theirs off-road? For clarification, off-road isn't a dirt road a 2WD can use.
Hold on there....I have a V6 4Runner and I have 4H and 4L on the 4wd select knob. The difference with the V6 is that it also has a 2H selection.
That is exactly my point. I guess I could have added that but I assumed it was understood. My bad.
