Any racks on a hinge?

I'm concerned a permanent rack bolted down is going to get the roof eaten away without cleaning/waxing.

Looking for something that has a quick disconnect on the front, and will rotate up to the back...

Seen em for jeeps where the connect all the way to the rear bumper.. but gobi/baja don't see to have that option.

I know this is blasphemy for some of you but I have went YEARS without waxing the top. Almost all vehicles since the 80's have base coat clear coat and *gasp* will be fine for decades without washing or waxing. Don't believe me? Go to a junkyard and find an old car that's been out there for 25 years or so. Paint and metal on it will be fine as long as there have been no deep scratches in it. Your worries are unfounded.

I'll allow you 10 years here in the deep south. That only because our 89 Cavalier and my wife's 05 Camry both had their finishes go south at the 10 year mark. The Camry drastically in the last year. In spite of religious detailing work. The color is still there but the clear coat is peeling like a sunburnt child......

So every vehicle down there after it's ten years old has the clear peeling?

My full length Baja Rack is easily removed by removing 12 bolts. Just leave the feet in place and work around them. Then I can wash and wax to my heart's desire and just bolt it back up. I imagine the Gobis are the same way.

Some less than others. But you can almost tell a car's age by the fading. Strangely enough the pre-clear coat era stuff seems to do better. And I agree the micro scratching is probably as much the culprit as the sun. Both cars started at the leading edges where they catch little rocks and sand blasting from traffic.
