Any SR5 owners do the ATRAC in 4H mod?

I have a general question for the group. How many have done the "ATRAC in 4H mod"?

Any SR5 owners try this mod? Seems like it should work for the SR5.

Do you have any links for info on this mod? Not having ATRAC in my tacoma I've done the TRAC in 4lo mod, but I think with the hydraulic brake booster in the SR5 TRAC is quite capable.

There is a link on how to do the mod on a Trail version 4Runner and I think for the most part the SR5 will be the same. I just was hoping someone else had made the change on the SR5.

I don't have enough time in the 4runner to make the change yet. But I have used other cars that have a traction control system and i dont like how they kill enginer power. That's ok for ice (maybe) but I would rather control the engine power myself in most cases.

I think TRAC and ATRAC do basically the same thing it's just ATRAC does not kill engine power, while using the breaks to control wheel spin. Is this correct?

Exactly, ATRAC works like a limited slip differential by braking the spinning wheel to provide power to the opposite wheel on the same axle.

I just did a search because I didn't remember seeing that 5th gens have ATRAC on only in 4L but I did find a few threads that confirmed this (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/61701-mods-atrac-locking-rear-dif-other-than-4l.html). I would have thought the 5th gen was just like the 4th gen which had ATRAC active in 4H too.

I used A-TRAC just once so far, it really helps. But I think that Toyota might allowed its usage only in 4Lo for a reason. Hearing all those clicking when A-TRAC is engaged I'm wondering if A-TRAC can damage something or work unpredicatbale on high speed if activated. But this mod would be really cool if it works.

Yes, I agree. Doing this mod would require the driver to be very aware of his situation. Depending on how you drive in snow/mud you could get to this "wheel spin" speed of 80 mph.

I was thinking more like needing it in the 20 - 30 mph range. one would have to be careful on it's application.

How fast can you go (should you go?) in 4 LO?

Unless they changed it for the 4runner, there is no throttle control when in 4hi. On my truck, when TRAC activates on 2hi there is throttle control, 4HI none. With the 4lo mod also none.
