Any7Offroad Skidplates

To put it into perspective, darren didn't know your skid existed. He does not frequent any forum other than pirate4x4. Any7 builds anything and everything. They saw a void in available gas tank skids for the early pickups and 4runners and wanted to start filling that gap in available offroad armor throughout the generations. The shop asked if they could use my runner as a platform to build one off of for the 3rd gens. There initial business outlook was to build armor that could be used regardless if someone has an ifs or sased rig.

Gerdos price for the skid itself is very fair. However when you factor the shipping costs to the west coast whether or not you agree, it does affect people outlook on whether or not they can justifiably afford one.

come on now, do you REALLY think you are the first person to build a skid for a 3rd gen gastank :wtf:
Oleg (Ibris off road) in Aurora has been making them for years, IIRC you copied his, being that he has been making for about 7 years now, though now he runs his shop from his home..
 
As I said, Gerdo's price is very fair.

For example, take a complete set of budbuilt skids. I priced them out and was ready to hit the pay button only to find out that to ship to my location in California, was gonna be $160 dollars extra. That puts a pretty large hit to your wallet for just shipping steel IMO. If another company can offer a product for a little more, but shipping is half of what the competators would be or a local pickup, wouldn't you want the money to go to the company and not UPS???

Check your facts dude. Irbis is more of a custom one off fab shop. I'm sure they made a gas tank skid before Gerdo did. But like all of their products, it was not a mass produced item. AFAIK, Gerdo's skid is the 1st mass produced gas tank skid for the 3rd gen. I don't even know if i would call it mass produced considering how small the market is.

I don't think Gerdo meant any bad feelings toward you or Any7. I know him personally and he just isn't that kind of guy. If it was me, i wouldn't be pissed at anyone making a similar skid but i do know that i wouldn't be exactly be happy either.

Regardless, your skid does look stout and i'd probably have to do something similar to clear the pinion flange.

you need to check YOUR facts,,, Oleg DID produce them he would make about 5-10 at a time. Is gerdo "mass producing" them ? as you say?
And Oleg isnt making them in numbers anymore as you already said, there isnt much of a market for them. Oleg is before your time, before you even came to Colorado.

I know this is the prototype, but the lil' skips appears to be of better quality. But it is the prototype. I'll be interested to see if the overall craftsmenship improves when they put it into production. I've had the lil' skips skid for over a year now and am quite happy with it.

I do think his marketing strategy needs to change a little... Yes the gas tank skid will fit IFS and SAS 3rd gens, but in reality who in the right mind with a SAS 3rd gen is going to still use the stock gas tank? That's going to be the first thing to go after the SAS. Heck relocating it where the spare tire was is probly on my list before a SAS. Just saying.

No worries at all Steeze. I'm not mad or upset at his comment. I see a situation from all sides before I make any sort of opinion. If I saw another product released that was similar to my own, I would feel mixed feelings about it too. All in all both Gerdo and Any7 make what looks to be a very well built product. :tea:

I have been pleased with the work that Any7 has done on my vehicles, and I wish them the best with this new road that they are taking with a production product.

Any 7 is working with a bender now to see about production costs for having all the edges press bent. As stated in the first post, my skids are the originals and therefore were the ones that the initial measurements and clearances were taken from. Now that the cad files are completed, I believe that they will be working to bend most of the edges instead of weld.

As far as the marketing strategy, his initial thought was the early 1st and 2nd gens which primarily run leafs in the back, thus no need to relocate the tank.

Furthermore, it's easy enough to run a 3 link in the back and still keep the factory tank. That was my initial thought when I was looking at swapping my tons under the runner.

I'm not pissed. It's a small market and there wasn't anything be mass produced ( a small mass due to the small market) so I ran with it. I have been selling and shipping around North America for several years now.

The driveshaft and flange are a challenge. My design clears most applications, there will always be exceptions.

Doug at ToyTec (IFS) and Glade at Addicted Offroad (SAS) run my skid.

The driveshaft has definitely been a challenge with my current suspension setup. Even with the extra clearance, it still hits in a couple areas. I will be showing Darren those spots when I drop the 4runner off this week so they can make adjustments to the final design. I need to drop the skid at some point and get the grinder out to notch out what is needed.

It is a small market as most people think that the main IFS and belly skids are sufficient. The add to that, how many people REALLY use the skid enough to justify the need for one. Again, a very small market.

I should make a note that I am not affiliated with Any7Offroad and if you did wish to purchase anything from them, please call the shop or email Darren direct. I am only a satisfied customer with whom they have decided to work with on these skids.

I will always support a company that does right by me. Why not take that extra step and help them by promoting their products to the best of your ability.

I'm sure if Darren ever hops on these forums, he will appreciate the kind gesture Gerdo. He does have a link to this thread, so I am sure he will be monitoring it frequently to see what the feedback is on the products and of the improvements that are suggested.

You know what happens when you assume......

If I really wanted a tank skid on my 3rd gen, I would have had one, never needed one, ( I had a custom dented one) but IF I did, Armorology would have had my business, not you.

Skids are finally finished. Still need to pull them to paint but they are installed till this weekend.

I really like how the front is at an angle with hidden hardware along with all of the hardware that mounts the skids is up out of the way.

The crossmember reinforcements are a nice touch too.











And a couple of the crossmember supports.









Looks like the pricing for the front and belly skids, crossmembers, and hardware is $650 for the package. Darren said that if you bought the entire package including gas tank skid the price would be $850. They are knocking off about 10% ($90) for the complete package.

Darren also said that if you wanted to buy once part then come back later and purchase the rest, he would knock the $90 off the final purchase.

They are wanting to get one more 4runner into the shop for install to make sure that all the measurements and mounting is good for production. If anyone is interested and local, give them a call and they can set you up.
