I was hit today by a guy driving a Chevy Trailblazer. Tailgate is pushed in pretty good, window wont go down all the way anymore so I cant open the back at all. Bumper is toast, pushed into my tires but didnt damage them. Some body damage where the bumper hit the truck and tore mounting holes. Im curious if anyone has had similar damage and what the general repair cost was. Insurance is going to send a check and Im wondering what kind of $$ I will be looking at.
Anybody been rear-ended?

Sorry to hear that brother. I was rearended in mine by a civic, lucky though I was locked and lifted on 33s and she went under me and just bent my bumper a bit, but smashed her whole front end up on my hitch lol. I'm sure they'll quote you for a new tailgate assembly and bumper. So probably around 1200-1500. Hopefully you can go to a junkyard and get a replacement hatch for like 300 bucks and throw it on. Just remember to swap out the locking mechanisms since the key wont work if you dont. Keep us updated, and best of luck.

You should be able to get a new tailgate for less than $100. Find someone doing a part out. When my wife backed mine in to a telephone poie, the back would not open and the window would not roll down. I just backed up to a tree with a come along and cranked the bend back out then everything worked again.
Might be time to consider a nice offroad bumper from Trail Gear, Addicted offroad, Matin Crawler or 4xInnovations. Most of those cost less than $400.

I got rear ended my a Mercedes last winter, she slid up and underneath me. pushed my rear axle about 2 inches forward and scratched my bumper. She was going to sue me for stopping at a red light and the cop looked at her and was like.... your kidding right? long story but she had to buy me a can of spray paint for the bumper, a knew stinger because they couldnt get mine out of her radiator, and 2 knew bolts for the leaf springs plus the $400 for my.... whip lash ;-D
normally decent people around will cut you a good deal if you need parts... but i said decent people so it might be hard finding a new tailgate and such for cheap. just get a piece of 2x4 and a BFH and beat out the dents from the tail gate from the inside and see if your window will come down. just needs enough to clear the sides of the top.

Well it looks like they are going to total the 4runner out. If I want to keep it, it will be regional market value minus what the highest bid from a junkyard is, then the remainder to me. Not really what I want to hear. Guess I will have to wait and see what they consider regional market value. KBB in fair condition only shows $2200. Hopefully I dont take it completely in the shorts.
