15s are generally not the most efficient subs... a few companies have even phased them out over the past few years especially with most people not wanting to give up the room 15s take up.

You hare half right about the bandpass box. A single-reflex bandpass box is half sealed, half ported. A dual-reflex has both chambers being ported. BUT if you don't have adequate mid-bass... like a good component set at minimum, bandpass is just going to be overwhelming with bass and will sound terrible.

if you want those 15's to really hit you gotta get a stiffing cap ez install and for what your running I'd go with at least a 2 farad rated if not a little bigger in the future you should look into a false floor box design you get to keep you big subs and your cargo cover. sealed boxs if you listen to alot of rock and metal with some rap ported if rap jazz and r&b and classical are your thing I'm a big fan of bandpass boxes espiecally in a hatch or cargo application I hope you scraped the paint off wherever you shot your ground if you dont have any engine noise than it's proably not a big deal but running that much power I'd do everything I can to get the best connection also your altenator is gonna suffer
that many amps being drawn yikes!

also the stereo shop I worked at had a gmc cyclone sound off rig
with 3 JL 10's and an 18' cerwin vega in a infinit baffle enclosure
sounded great if you wanted to hear it without going deaf and would hit 140 SPL

stiffening cap is a waste of money. You have several upgrades before adding a stiffening cap.. Upgrade the big 3: battery - to chassis, battery + to alternator, and engine - to chassis. Next you should upgrade the alternator. Most cars come with about an 80 amp at max altenator... You'll want to get a high output altenator in the 200 amp range. You should also upgrade your battery to an Optima Yellow top or similar. Last you can ad a cap but they don't do a hell of a lot other than give you a digital readout. The general rule of thumb is .5 farad per 500 watts.

140 db isn't a lot... I had a single 10w7 in JLs HO Box powered by a 500/1 hitting 141.7 on a termpro mic. Source unit was a Pioneer Premier DEHP740. No cap, no upgraded battery, nothing.

SPL is measured in DBs. 140 is not loud at all.

I'm running somewhere around 1,400 RMS and don't have any problems. I think that he should be fine with the big 3 and maybe another battery.

Well it all depends of what kind of 140.
140 db at best buy or some little crappy shop with an old AC mic isn't very loud.

But a 140db legal run on a calibrated termlab mic is loud.
I'm doing ~140 db's legal on the dash and I will definately say that it's loud.

140 isn't loud for a competition... But to jam out to your music, yes its loud.

And no I am not MECP certified. I'm actually still in school going for electrical engineering. I've just been installing since I was 16 and was taught at one of the most reputable shops in NC.

Of course 140 is loud for daily listening. It would be very stupid to listen to it that loud for even a short period of time everyday.

Does anyone know where I can find a HO alternator for my 98 Runner? I have only been able to find the 70-80 range. This will help when I add my winch and lights on top of the audio. Just running a sesame street system compared to all fo yours but hey components all the way around and a single 8" in the rear for balance.
