anybody heard of spark knock.

My engine makes a suttle rattle sound at about 2000 rpms' sounds like a loose valve or something. Not always noticeable, just at a mid range rpm, and pretty suttle. I had my mechanic listen to my injector chatter, and he said that was very normal for these, and he said the other suttle noise was spark knock. What is spark knock?

I think I know what you're talking about. Spark knock may be another way of saying "pre-ignition" of the gasoline. Mine did that too, especially around 50mph in the 2500RPM range. To solve that problem, I started using 89 octane gas to extend the rate of combustion...now it's a bit slower with 89 and it seems to help a ton.

could it be caused by carbon build up in the engine and the compression changing? like a diesel? i mean the gas is igniting b4 the spark hits. also it should theoretically happen when the engine is at normal operating temp

I would run a can of Techron through it to see if that changes anything.

i would love to do a full engine rebuild in a few years! just to see the wear and tear on the 3.4 over a few hun thousand miles, currently 215,000

thats a very good possibility. my Runner has 138k on it thats plenty of miles to have a buildup of crud. haha. Does Techron really do what it claims though?

I just put a bottle in this last tank of gas and haven't noticed much, but for $3 it was worth it!

oh and shootmymime, yeah a rebuild would be fun. my friend and his brother just rebuilt their '84 Landcruiser and '89 240 SX. I came over quite often to help out and I had a good time! Who knew frustrating mechanical work could be so fun?!

lol well thats what i do, i work at a shop called Daves Foreign Car Repair, so im around this frustrating mechanical work everyday, and on the weekends im restoring my mustang!- thats frustrating

and to top it off, it's "foreign" repair! ahh! Aren't the parts specifically designed for "foreigner hands?"

btw, I like that mustang! one of the rarer breeds unlike '99 Stangs....I swear there are over 250 in my town...out of roughly 20,000 people.
