I just installed my TRD exhaust I got from this $250 deal today on my 03 limited V8 (no XREAS). I used to have a borla system on mine about a year ago and I have to say this TRD system seems to be a little higher quality. The tubes are thicker and everything just seemed a little better made. Comparing the two on the road, the TRD is slightly quieter at freeway speeds (still some drone but not as bad as the borla). Under acceleration, the TRD is about as loud as the borla but has a deeper, throatier sound that I like a bit better. I've only had it on for one day but so far I like it a lot. Definitely not a bad deal for $250!

Don't know yet. It's still in the giant box, although I did peek inside--looks nice. I don't have a garage and seems like it'd be miserable working under the 4Runner when it's cold and snowy. Probably gonna be a spring project. From all the posts on the subject, it'll probably fit but without the spare in place.

The noise is often a secondary problem that goes along for the ride, however, this does not seem to be the focus of the Borla nor the Magnaflow. Maybe the TRD is different. I'll give the Magnaflow one more chance when I receive the new one next week, but if I don't find a HP benefit and only noise, I will have a Magnaflow for sale.

For what it's worth, the Jaos exhaust is probably more of what you're looking for. Improved flow (for HP) and low noise -- others on this forum have in fact complained that they didn't get the "bang for the buck" that they wanted -- and they mean sound. The buck part is the problem. That exhaust runs about 1 grand.
I looked into it, but don't like the way the rear pipe is SO large. Not the look I want and potentially gets in the way off road.

If you get the magnaflow cat back and the drone is too much, you might consider welding a round muffler/resonator in front of the muffler. I am considering that route with a magnaflow 2.5" 4 inch round 14" long. I don't have the Magnaflow yet but I think there is room and you should be able to use the extra V6 headpipe that comes with the kit. I'd like to know if anybodiy has tried this.

I have the Magnaflow cat-back system and I think some people don't realize that with an aftermarket performance exhaust you will get a purr at a steady speed. I do not hear any drone at all. To me a drone is a frequency noise not a purr. I think the Magnaflow is a low tone purr that is just the right balanced sound, not overwhelming but sounds powerful.

The thing that surprized me on the muffler is that you can look straight through it. When checking out what the rattling noise was inside the muffler I could see right through like on offset telescope to daylight on the other side. Maybe this is where the plate that broke was suppose to be but not likely. I'll check it out when the replacement arrives.

I went back to that website that advertised the $250 exhaust and it's now something over $700. They do have the equivalent for the Tundra on sale for $250, so if you know any Tundra guys you might let 'em know. I got mine for the 4Runner for $250 shipped, so it must have been some sort of super special.
Has anybody noticed that when you're typing "4Runner", it's real easy to hit the shift key with the "4" and it becomes "$Runner"? Maybe somebody is trying to tell us something about all these mods!
