anyone debadge "4runner" on rear cargo door

Just got our new '11 blizzard pearl SR5. removed the side "SR5" wondering if anyone who removed the rear "4runner" emblem can post a pic.

tried searching for an image but couldn't find one. wanna remove mine but read somewhere that it is not a clean slate underneath. if someone could please post a picture before I try mines. thanks.

It is clean underneath (meaning smooth). I removed mine and painted the emblems black and reapplied.

Are you saying the emblem "4Runner" does come off and that you removed your emblem and repainted it? By the looks of it, I though it was all one piece to include the chrome trim. Thanks.....

If you are talking about removing just the letters, it's not totally clean underneath. If you take them off there are like two dimples in the plastic for aligning the letters. When I removed mine I planned on leaving them off but didn't because of them. Click my build link below for more info.

I didnt see any dimples on mine when I took them off. I didnt completely 100% remove all of the residue though.

It's normal glue/adhesive for emblems. Like a light grey glue you can heat up to soften and remove.

Yea I attempted to take mine off using credit card and floss. I got the "4" off and saw the dimples and stuck the "4" back on as best I could. The adhesive took a beating but its still stuck up there. I think its just slightly crooked. If it falls off I figure a new badge won't cost much or be to difficult to replace.

i know it is this if off subject and not to everyone's liking but to those interested just put on 20" x 9" rims fitted with 285/50/20 tires so far no rubbing. looks a lot beefier. its the wifes ride (got a '05 taco, lifted as my daily driver)

This is what I did. removed 4runner emblem. Painted chrome housing black. Reinstalled 4runner emblem with 3m double stick tape.

Did you paint the "plate" while still on the vehicle or did you remove it? And, if you removed it, how did you get it off?

It looks like a Royal PITA to remove inside the rear hatch with a few nuts. I haven't taken mine off, yet, but soon I think...

I did take the interior panel off to get a look at it already.

I'm thinking the little dimples could be filled with marine epoxy and sanded smooth. Once painted you would never be able to tell... Hmmmmmmmmmm.

I painted it while still installed. Process: I removed the lettering with fishing line,used 3m adhesive remover to get off the rest of sticky tape from housing with small plastic kids ruler. I bought a plastic table cloth $1. it covered pretty much the whole back of the rig. Cut out the area that was going to be painted,taped off all areas exposed around housing,lightly sanded then painted (3 coats). Bought 3m double stick tape to reattach 4runner emblem. I know you didn't ask how I did it,in case you or any other member decide to do this mod this is how.

I thought about leaving it blank and using surfboard resin or epoxy also. That process would have added another 2-3 more hours of prep/sanding/cleaning. due to the dust fragments. If you decide to go this way post some pics and maybe I will go this way later down the line.
