Anyone else have really foggy side windows?

Hey guys

When I have the defroster on, it doesn't defrost my side windows. I noticed they are really foggy and hard to see through. I can't see my side view mirrors that well. Am I doing something wrong or are they (4runners) all this way?

Depends upon the weather, but on high-humidity mornings loaded with fog, yeah, it's a bit tough to get those defogged.

That being said, I've also got an F150 and a Ford Fusion, and on the same type of mornings, they're a bit slow as well, so it's not any worse than any other vehicle I've had.

On those type of mornings I usually crack some of the windows, or adjust the temperature until it's somewhat equal to the outside temp; IMHO (and I could be wrong) the fog tends to form faster when there's a greater temperature differential between the inside and outside.

This just says to me that the insides of your windows need a good cleaning.
Bust out the windex and see how they fare afterward. I have to clean my windows all the time because my dog stick her nose against every single one, and if I haven't cleaned them in a while, they get all foggy when its humid outside.

Are you defrosting with outside air or recirculated air? Check where it's set. If it's above 0 (Canadian) try setting it on defrost and put the A/C on for a bit to clear them or just crack the window like previous poster suggested to even out the ambient temp.

I came to my T4R after owning 8 VWs - they're famous for fogging up : )

I agree that cracking the window is a quick fix. I also find that the cleaner I keep my windows, the longer it takes them to fog up.

Windex them as often as possible and hit the ac button when you have the heat on.
Works everytime.

Mine seem to fog up when I have the air on "recirculate", and when I have it on "fresh" air, they don't fog up...maybe try that and see what happens.

I could be wrong, but when our 4Runners are on "defrost" doesn't it kick the AC on automatically?

And Kung, it's impossible to defrost a car in FLW.

I had the same issue this fall, and realized I had the HVAC set to recirculate the air, rather than draw outside air, it didn't matter the setting, the windows fogged up badly, I was running the rear defrost just to see out the back. Hit that switch, and all was well.

Full defrost cycles the AC compressor to dry the air out, it's not a bad thing to exercise the compressor throughout the winter.

IMO it's alot to do with the design as the vents could be better in a 3rd gen but cracking the windows,keeping them cleaned often all help and using a defogger like one from Rain-X has worked on some of the cars I owned.

I got this yesterday because my mats are wet, and the outside temps were no good to prevent inside fogging. I always roll windows down and blast the heat even in winter. It always does the trick.

Good answers everyone! I'm off to clean my windows. I bought this truck in the fall and i haven't cleaned them yet, so it's probably time.
