Anyone ever tried gold foil???

If it works like they say this could be very beneficial, especially for boosted 3.4's since we dont have an intercooler.

seems like wrapping the stock box, an air raid tube or the likes and the actual blower itself even could be very beneficial.

and i know gold works for a number of reasons(i work with it, have studied it, and know that some baller engine builds will be gold plated for exactly the same heat resistance reasons), just a matter of if this particular product works. i searched and found people on forums that like it, but no actual tests with numbers.

Experiences, ideas, thoughts?

The idea behind gold foil was to provide radiation and small partical protection.. if a small partical at large speeds collide with it and vaporize.. gold being denser giving more protection than aluminum..

If your driving your rig on the moon i suggest the foil...lol

But seriously the Mclearn f1 has the entire engine bay covered in gold so it must do something right.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like snake oil...

It may reflect heat very well, but how much heat is really picked up by the air/fluids in the pipes? I can't think of anywhere on our vehicles that would really need this, especially when there is a good amount of air flow through the engine compartment while moving. Are you really going to get more heat from radiation on a pipe/component than you will lose from convection (since this thing is going to insulate whatever you put on it? I doubt it. This may help a little bit at idle, when the heat isn't escaping the engine compartment very well, but once you start moving, you will get air flow around everything that will move alot more heat than you will get from radiation.

Anytime you hear a statement like "For many years aeronautical agencies like NASA have used heat reflective gold foil on satellites and various space crafts." or , they are blowing smoke up your ass. They didn't even get the grammar right. They also can't keep track of whether it is made of a polyimide or a polyamide.

You have a stock tuned, mass produced engine. You will not see any improvement from this other than the placebo affect that comes from paying $40/ft to improve it.

BTW, they say $40/linear ft, but they don't say how wide the roll is.

...other than the placebo affect...

I'll just do what your avatar says and "come at you" :boxer:
I agree with you on your point, but you have to admit the irony of combining a post complaining of grammar errors with your own grammar error. (effect vs. affect)
