Anyone in AZ going out this weekend? Phoenix, Tuscon, other?

There are a few FJ guys going out Monday NE Tuscon but I'd like to hang out and meet some fellow 4Runner junkies!

I am sure that my wife has some fun stuff planned for the long weekend but I will come up with SOMETHING to say to get away!!

I'd like to... only went on one run this summer, but off-roading in the heat doesn't sound like much fun, especially when you split a sidewall! Unfortunately My 4Runner will be off having a roofrack built for it, so I won't have it for the next 2 weekends! =(

Summer heat is a pain huh? I am alway on and off with the a/c this time of year. I love the back window rolled down and windows open but it gets HOT!!

Good luck with the rack, please share pics when it is complete.

Another few weeks and I'm hoping to have my back window down again too, but only on the pavement - trail dust gets everywhere!!

Will definitely share pictures of my roof rack when it's complete. I'm really excited about it!

im out for this weekend.

but check these guys out

Adventure Off Road Club

not all 4runners, but they have decent turnouts with quite a few organized events that cater to all difficulty levels.

i just picked up an 05 SE, but am not new to off-roading. it will be a while before I do any serious wheelin since the ride is still bone stock. but Im not waiting until its all setup before doing some "limit testing" of the stock version first.

butcher jones will probably be first on the "test" agenda

Good call on butcher jones... I don't work on fridays since I do 4 10's at my job (sweet) so I hit up butcher jones bc even if I break something then I know I can walk out and get a cell signal. I am in peoria but I don't mind the drive over there. I will check out that club for sure and I am sure that we'll see each other out there at some point.

I'm sure we'll meet up at one point or another. I'm just down the road from Butcher Jones which is why Im goin out there first.

I prefer not to off-road by myself, its just a safety thing for me. I learned the hard way back in the days of my 89 Toyota 4x4 and being stuck in the mud with noone around even though I was only 5 miles from the nearest paved road.

You could also check out Table Mesa on your side of town. Not sure how cell signal is out there though.

So I wound up hitting some trails up by the Lake Pleasant area instead of anything more exciting. There are some sandy washes out there along the power lines. I couldn't find anyone to go out with and the drive to Tuscon to hang with all FJ guys didn't happen.

I did find a small steep hill climb that was very loose that the Runner could NOT get up!!! It was one of the only times that I wasn't able to climb something. (I was still running street PSI so I will be back at a more suitable tire pressure to try again).

I am going to shoot for next weekend, Butcher Jones probably with one of my buddies from AZFJ. When I get the details hammered out, I will post them up.

Depending on the weather.....who am I kidding...its still gonna be hot.........I may swing out to Butcher Jones saturday, but the keeper of my soul (fiance), hasn't decided if I have chores to do this weekend yet. She also wants to go on the "test" run, so if she is busy, I'm busy:shrug:

Awesome, I hope you can make it. I hear you about the significant other.... Mine generally leaves me alone now that I sold all the motorcycles but sometimes she flexes her muscles and reminds me who is in charge!! The baby chair in my Runner says it all.

I invited a couple co workers, we are a rag tag bunch, FJ Cruiser, OJ style Bronco, old 60's Bronco, Wrangler, Discovery.... I don't know if any of those guys besided the FJ guy will make it or not....

Any Tuscon Runners want to make the drive up?

Ok so we are meeting up at 10:00am 9/10/11 at the gas station across from Ft McDowell Casino. It is a bit north of Shea on rt 87 (Beeline Hwy).

Hoping to see some nice Runners out there! These FJ guys are ganging up on me...

How did it go?

Trip pics?

My buddy took a couple videos, he rode along and didn't drive so I will post them up as soon as I get them from him. It was a really good day. The Runner ran great and we had a lot of fun!

I have a hearbreaking video of me attempting to get up the most difficult hill of the day (might be one of the toughest lines in all the playgrounds) and not making it. I greatly reduced the capacity of my fuel tank with a couple nice dents in it.... I have full length budbuilt skids but I don't have the fuel tank skid, now I regret that decision!!

My ego got the better of me and I tried the hill over and over and never got up it! I should have quit after one try but I keep going and going! oh man:bash:

look forward to the vids.

sucks the fuel tank took some abuse, but is that part of the actual tank? I thought it was a skid plate for the fuel cell.....

You're right, just a flimsy fuel tank skid, the plastic about it dented but isn't leaking...

I heard the noise of metal on rocks below me, but I honestly thought that I was hitting my budbuilts so I just kept on going.

The vids will be up today!

no need to repost. looks like good times were had.

i noticed it wasnt even muddy out there.....with the rain fri night, i thought it would have been a bit wet out.

I figured out how to put the videos right in the thread, I put 4 videos in the forum for the 4th Gens.

Unfortunately a father and son were killed up there Friday night at the 1st cove. When I was there on Saturday morning the recovery vehicles were still there and that cove was closed. The news article said the accident was at 10 pm, and like you said it was raining. Very sad...
