I just realized that in 265mm sizes, these tires come in both C and E load ratings. But in 275mm, only E is available.
Seems like with how slow these vehicles are, a lighter tire (C rated) would be more ideal. What is everyone's thoughts on load rating? Am i making a bigger deal of the weight differences than I should be?
Moose.and.Me What is that beauty of a winch/bumper/LED combo you've got on that last 4R? I am drooling over that look.
I have the 275's in Load Range E and it's definitely more of a sluggish ride (in terms of acceleration) and I find it a bit harder to hang out in the "ECO" range on my dash for MPGs. That said, I think the grip on the road is much better and I see little to no nose dive on braking anymore. I am sure the C's will ride closer to stock but it's all a matter of opinion and perception. (For instance, I had a 2002 Wrangler on 35in mudders just a few months ago... so anything feels better than that ride for me).
The guy at Discount Tire, however subjective this might be, actually talked me into the 275's over the 265's (even though the 275's were cheaper for some reason). He has them on his 4Runner and he said they have been indestructible for him. Plus you get 30 days to test them out with no-hassle refunds and tire swap-outs. Hell, try them both!![]()
I also haven't experienced any rub on these yet. Taking them off-road this weekend so will report back.
Wait a second - you're saying that the higher load range tires reduce nose-dive? I thought that was a function of soft suspension. How is that possible? One of my biggest complaints with this vehicle is the acceleration speeds. It's to the point that it's almost not safe trying to merge with traffic sometimes. So I am hesitant to do that. I believe they have 285's in the C range that would be lighter. I wonder if that is a better option.
Have forever seen references to nose dive, but outside of aeronautics, not sure of the maneuver.
Does anyone know if they still make 275/70/17 in Load C? I can't seem to find them anywhere.
Looks great!
Has anyone regretted going with the 275 and gone back down to 265?
Also anyone have a SR5 with 275 with not lift? Looks like most of the pics are of trails in this thread.
