Anyone got a pic of BFG KO2 275/70R17 on your 4R without lift?

I hadn't looked at 285s but I did check out the OEM 265 Grapplers weighing in ~40lbs for C-load, and the equivalent 265 BF KO2 coming in around almost 46lbs for C-load, and ~53lb for D-load. I'm curious what a >10lb gain on each tire will do for MPG with the KO2 265 D-load. I would love to go with the larger profile of a 275, especially as I try to convince myself I need a lift also, but I have a 60-mile round trip work commute so I gotta keep an eye on the MPG impact.

I hadn't looked at the Terra Grapplers as a comparison point, but I should have. That's a crazy amount heavier. Damn, now I'm reconsidering this whole thing. Vehicle has no acceleration with those Nittos as is. Hmmm....that sucks.

I've got a TRDP also and planning to get the KO2's in 275 configuration. Your comments about the penalties has got me rethinking the 275s. Do you have before / after numbers to offer up?

No, I don’t have any before/after numbers, sorry. And I’ve had the tires on for so long now (40k miles-ish) that I’ve just sort of gotten used to them. If I look at my MPGs over the time that I’ve owned the vehicle, it says 17.1 combined. Don’t know if that helps you out at all....

As someone mentioned in a post above, you can get the 285s in a C load rating which keeps the weight closer to the OEM tires, but you’ll get some rub with the 285s and no lift. I actually bought 285s first but then ended up swapping them out shortly thereafter for the 275s for that very reason. Now that I’ve lifted my 4R and gotten used to the the way the 275s feel...I’ll probably go with them again...or maybe even the 285s. LOL!

Mine is showing 18.5 MPG right now. Interestingly, ever since I started this work commute (~3 months), my MPG has gone up. It used to be around 17.4. I guess it's the stop and go traffic on my current commute. :D That may sound decent, and I know there's a thread out there about this, but my truck is about 2 miles off on the MPH too. So I may be getting 16.5? I dunno. I'm probably giving this too much thought.

When I changed tire sizes I did before and after testing of the speedo using a Garmin GPS unit. I found with 265s the speedo was 2mph slow, with 285s it was around 3mph high and with the 275s, it was exact; the Garmin and the speedo showed exactly the same speed.

With respect to MPGs, I've seen 20.1mpgs on tanks of gas when on long road trips so I'm not at all surprised you're seeing higher MPGs now that you have a longer highway commute.

At the end of the day though, I'd say yeah...probably a little too much thought going into it. We didn't buy our 4Runners for MPGs or speed/power/acceleration. :)

Has anybody made a list of 275s? Is it kind of a rare size? Search is not helping me out for finding specific tires, but it looks like the 275 is on that sweet spot where it's bigger than stock but most likely won't require trimming or a lift.

far right is mine on 265's stock height. Silver one next to me is on 275's on a 3" Icon lift i believe. Not sure what the guy on the end was running.

265’s don’t look half bad. Ahh I’m torn now after looking at your picture. How have they been both daily driving and off roading for you?

Not a great angle

But I've had no rubbing, and MPG took only about a hit of .1 MPG. My commute did change around the time I threw these on, FWIW.

I've got a slimline bumper on the truck now, and it's quite a bit heavier than stock with the winch in there, so my front end is even lower. Looking at suspension options to fix that.

Ordered Kumho Road Venture AT51 275/70r17 in C load. Will post pictures after mounting. 46pounds per tire, vs 52 for E load. Great reviews. Will see.

A little late, but...

Here are a few pics with 275/70/17 Ko2's with the ToyTec Boss lift. I had rubbing on the front left mud flap on full left turns at slow speeds. Removed the mud flaps and had zero issues since.

I just put on a set of AT KO2 275/70R17s yesterday. I agonized over the decision between these and the 265s, but I'm glad I went with the 275s. I haven't notice any significant drop in acceleration or power, and I actually prefer the ride of the 275s to the stock Dunlop tires. It seemed that my rig felt every little bump with the stock tires. The 275 BFGs seem to roll over bumps and potholes much easier. The one thing I have noticed is a steep MPG drop in the few miles I've driven so far. On City streets, it's around 2mpg so far. I haven't done any highway driving yet, but I'll do so and post an update.

Tire pressure

What tire pressure are you all running with the 275/70/17 KO2? I’m currently at 38 and have been too lazy to do a chalk test

I have noticed about a 1-1/2 mpg loss on average over the factory 265 Nittos also. They are quieter, but, ride slightly rougher. A “C” rated tire would be perfect.

I run 38psi also. Seems to be the sweet spot. Anything over 40 unloaded is too much.

BEFORE: No lift TRD Pro. No clearance issues. Pro is 1” higher up front and has the fender mod done at the port.

AFTER: Cornfed Pro 1.5/1” spacer lift with my 275’s. Total of 2.5” up front with 1” rear.

Rubs in front that could be fixed with fender trim but also slight rub against body mount. Considered lifting front to level the rake and hopefully fit the tires but feel it will be easier and less invasive to the truck.

I'm looking to get the same or similar 275/70's... I've got a set of 17 fuel wheels with 8.5 width, 4.5 bs, and -6 offset. Should this wheel/tire combo work? Should I expect rubbing? Any negative effects when off roading and flexing the suspension. Going on a 17 sr5 completely stock.
