Anyone has the Flowmaster 40 or 50 exhaust on their 5th gen?

Hi guys,

I am interested in adding a bit of sound to my 2016 Trail Edition. I always been a engine sound guy for some reasons.

I love my 4Runner but I think it's too silent. I looked around and found many older threads on the subject (like 2008-2010) but not recent ones about this.

What I am looking for is for a nice and deep rumble while accelerating, but NO DRONE ON HIGHWAY ... which is commonly an issue with many exhaust systems.

Any of you guys have a Flowmaster 40 or 50 on their 5th gen? Also what should I order with the exhaust to get it installed at the shop (bracket, adaptors)...

flowmaster will drone especially a super 44. I ran one on my dodge with a resi and that was annoyingly loud on the inside. Have you looked at magnaflow? Someone recommended one I'm not sure who it might of been antman..

I've been recently looking at exhaust for my 5th gen as well, and I quite like the sound of Dynomax mufflers. They are pretty inexpensive, and have several different sizes. If you are just looking to swap out mufflers and leave the rest of the exhaust you'd get a center in offset out 2.5". There are several videos of Dynomax mufflers on youtube that I was able to find.

I had a flowmaster 50 which sounded nice but i couldn't stand the drone on my drive from Portland to San Francisco. I switched to Gibson and I love it now! Check it out. I've always run the flowmaster 50 on my Tacomas but I think because the cargo area on the runner acts like a boom box it sounds worse.

Wow even the 50 drones!!!! Heard that they were "mild"
 
I have a super 50 on my '12. I'm sure there is drone but I don't even notice it. Either I've just subconsciously tuned it out or the sound from the muffler has mellowed over time, take your pick. The only time I really notice the lack of sound is when I drive customer's stock 4runners at the shop.
 
IIRC, the Flowmaster 60 series is supposed to be "tuned" for 6 and 4 cylinder applications, so I'm assuming there should be no or less drone. I welding one on a Tacoma years ago and it sounded good outside but I have no idea how it sounded inside. I've been wanting to try something different as well.
 
I have the super 70ii on both mine & son's 05 , very nice rumble but not inside & I've driven lots of road trips ! Imo size of canister is important & 70ii is that !

Nope just take it to an exhaust shop and they will cut out the old one and weld the new one on. (around $60 in labor)

I am considering the super 50 for my 2018 4runner. How has the drone been since? Would you go quieter if you could do it again? Folks at flowmaster recommend the super 50 because they claim the series 70 is pretty much like stock. I have had the 40 series but this time would like to avoid drone.

I had the 40 series on my 4th gen, it was loud! Like really loud!!! Had to put resonators on it and then it was perfect. Next time I will go with a 50 series.
 
Has anyone cut out the rear muffler entirely? I have been thinking about cutting that out and putting an exhaust pipe right out the back.
 
Im running the Flowmaster 50 Series Delta Flow.. had it on for about 1.5 years now, still loving the sound..
 
I have the Flowmaster exhaust system that is discontinued on my 16 trail.
It has the 70 series muffler and is barely louder than the stock.
 
I had the chance to hear flowmaster and magnaflow side by side on a gen4 4runner. And id say the magnaflow sounded better and didn't have a constant growl while idling. And it was a on demand growl as you stepped on the pedal. But that depends on your personality if you want to hear a constant loud exhaust or only on demand if you want to keep a low profile on attention.
