does anyone have a double din head unit in their 3rd gen? Like one with nav and a dvd player etc.? I was thinking about getting one, but i dont know what the viewing angle would be like from the drivers seat. I haven't actually seen my 4runner in person yet. Over thanksgiving will be the first time i see it, and i wanted to do a few small mods and install a new head unit. Can anyone tell me how they like theirs, or if they dont like it? If someone could show me a picture of it that would also be great.

Here is xskydivingdudex with the pioneer avic-d3. If I already didnt have my alpine indash then this is the unit I would get for my 4runner

here's mine it doesn't have built in gps but can be added on, has built in dvd player and all of the rest of xbox,head rest,cameras ect ect,

I have a Pioneer similar to the one above, except it is the on dash unit(made my own mount to make it an "in" dash unit. Anyway, the pioneer systems are great.

i also want to add, i love love love the SD card option for storing my music, i sold my ipod and have all of my music on a little sd card now way way cheaper, no cords anywhere nothing stupid sticking out the front, very clean very effeicnt no stupid extra programs on my computer, just drap and drop and play.
i would advise though that if your looking for a unit make sure it has the full blue-tooth profile for streaming music, i have the built in blu-tooth but it only works with my phone for calling no streaming pandora through the blu-tooth, i still can with the aux port but then i'm back to stupid cords and things sticking out the front.
the screen doesn't tilt either but the viewing angle is fine for everyone except the back seats the shifter will block the view a bit no matter what h/u you get for those in back.

thanks a lot guys, im actually looking at one similar to the 3200bt theizzardking has. I just wasnt sure if the stock radio location was too low or anything. I also never really thought about the shifter being in the way, but really thats not a big deal. I'd mostly use it for gps and music, not movies. Does anyone know if on most of these head units with the usb port can charge multiple devices? i want to run a cable from the usb port to a usb hub so i can plug in my ipod, phone and anything else that needs charging.

i think most of the headunits with usbs should be able to charge multiple items but u might have a problem with them functioning properly. As for the navigation, the 3200BT does not have one integrated tho one can be added to it.
The AVIC-D3 in the pic above is from my 4runner and well it has built-in NAVI and i love it and think that the viewing angle isnt bad at all. The wiring of the antenna easy if ur fine with wiring and popping off panels... bluetooth on this thing is really nice too.

yea, the one i was looking at had add on navigation so i would just have to find a place to put it. I should be able to wire it up pretty easily, but where do most of you put your antenna? i see a bunch of them on the roof right above the windshield. I was wondering if you could just wire it up and stick it on the inside up on the dash, but close up to the glass. I wasn't sure if this would affect reception or not. I figured it wouldn't because the window mounted gps' are inside so it cand be that big of a deal.

ON the dash would work but the higher it is the better the reception... if its on the exterior its typically better bc it gets less interference with the items on the interior such as electronics and panels.
Mine is wired on the back left of the 4runner between the roof rack and the hatch.
