anyone have trac+ spacers?

I installed 1.5 inch spacers, giving me 3 inches of extra width. I did this to off set my 3 inch Revtek lift. My 4runner still handles great, too great! The tires stick out from the body about 1 inch. Not noticeable but you do see the extra width from the front and rear. I have the expensive ones that also bolt to the hub in which I used locktite to secure it. And then just torque the mounted tires to 85 ft lbs of torque. Has never come loose, yet.
 
One more thing, Because of the extra width, I had to trim some of my inner front wheel well trimmings. Only a little. The rest of the wheel well, What i did was to get a lighter and heat up the plastic and then just remold it inwards so that it does not touch. @85's will fit with lift but there will be rubbing with full lock of the steering wheel. Could you post some pictures of your spacers and the places where you remould the plastic. It's a very interesting solution ;):

do your spacers look the same as the ones on the first page. I also wanted to know the price you paid. If you don't mind.

I think I paid about $350. My spacers from fred also has the outer lip on the spacers which secures the rim to the spacer for even greater strength. I did not post pictures as I attempted to earlier on but failed. I am having a hard time with the picture thing. But look up fred on the internet. He is in California, very excellent work. If you do get spacers, one thing I would do but did not was to clear coat them before mounting if your 4runner will be exposed to road salts.

I installed them, splurged and went front and rear.

for some reason it feels as if the ride is a tad smoother... maybe it's just me.

funny thing is that the same day i installed these guys, my rear windown button won't work :(

I notice that those are not hub-centric to the wheel (they are just flat) - I know that some of their models are like this, and others have the lip to keep the weel centered. I guess these spacers are just open like this.

Now the question for the group: does this matter?

I am about to have some spacers made for me that will be hub centric to the hub and the wheel - but maybe this is unnecessary?

What are your thoughts?

i don't feel any extra vibrations than i normally would on the road after the install.
 
Hey, where did you buy them from.
They seem hard to get right now. H&R is fresh out of them with a 6+ week wait time. I may just get custom made ones, but I like the look/brand of these.

Does anyone know if the hub centric / lug centric nature of them will cause any problems down the road? Is hub centric better for some reason?

I was forced to get them in order to let my front tires miss my swing arms. they dont make any thing worse and I havent had any problems yet.
 
For those that plan to offroad your 4runner, wheel spacers are not a preferred modification due to the extreme amount of stress on the studs. If you're trying to fit larger tires, I would recommend that you purchase the correct spec wheels to go w/ the tires.

I've been doing quite a bit of research on this subject, and it seems that there is some difference in opinion on the problems with spacers - specifically when using high-quality spacers.

There are a lot of bad spacers out there - some just being a metal shim - but top quality spacers such as these - are in a different class.

If properly installed and torqued down these should be very usable - a lot of SAS guys run them without problems.

I am wondering if the stories from cheap spacers have caused this general hatred of spacers. Or perhaps there really is a problem with them?

Of course none of us would want to lose a wheel, & spacers do seem like another point of possible failure. But they do run these high quality ones on the Autobahn without problems - so how bad could they really be?

You bring up a great point regarding the good stuff and the bad stuff. I've seen many people use spacers with no ill effect and I've also seen people experience some pretty severe issues.

It just boils down to how the item is used in conjunction with the application. Improper use and specification of the spacer can cause some pretty nasty problems so doing researching is key. Just because it's expensive doesn't mean it's the best either.

Personally I'm not too fond of them because it is another point of possible failure. I think it's cheaper to just buy proper fitted wheels to fit the tires than add spacers.

A question about the failures you have seen - can you shed any light on products we should stay away from? It would be good to know any specific spacer brands that are unreliable.

I've been talking to Fred Goeske at WheelAdapters.com - he seems to know his stuff, and I couldn't find anything on the web pointing to failures.

Maybe I am being crazy trying to keep stock rims (well lexus rims) with my 285s, but I just haven't found the right aftermarket wheel.

So for now, it's spacers.
