Anyone live in Dallas/Fort Worth area?

Hey guys,

First, I'm so sorry if I posted this in wrong section or if there is a sticky for this already.

But I have my v8 sport t4r that's due for new tires. I figured I might as well do the 3" lift I wanted and bigger tires at this time. My question is, does anyone live in the DFW area with a suspension lift or spacer lift that would be kind enough to let me check out/drive?

I ask because I don't know how the ride will change after adding a certain brand of lift and tires. I bought the runner at 130k and now it's at 150k. People will say that it's probably due for shock replacement by now but I kinda like the way it rides. Maybe I just don't know any better and a new aftermarket lift set would be way better. That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Does your t4r have the xreas suspension too?

I was thinking either the spacer kit as you mentioned.

Also, wasn't sure if the lack of diff drop with spacer kit is "really" an issue for longevity or just an assumed precaution.

I have an 07 V8 and swapped the XREAS about a year ago.

At that time I was in a similar position (needed new tires and decided to upgrade the suspension at the same time).

I went with 5100's and FJ cruiser springs and I'm very happy with the ride quality. I got about 2.5" in front and .75" in the rear.

I also swapped wheels and tires from 20" wheels with Michelin road tires to 17" wheels with BFG KO2s.

Unfortunately I'm not close enough to take you for a drive (San Antonio).

Maybe you can go to one of the 4WPW stores and they can give you an idea about how it'd handle. Might be worth a shot.

Okay, thought about it for some time. Even called and went to the 4WP store. This is my thinking:

1) I'm doing this 90% for looks. I don't have much opportunity for off roading around where I live.

2) After inspecting my shocks for oil leakage, damage, I didn't see anything. Truck is at 150k now.

For these reasons, I think I can get away with the daystar lift for now and that will be simplest and retain factory XREAS. When my shocks go out, I can get a proper lift kit.

A few questions:

1) I see two versions of the daystar lift kit, one black and one red. Is there a difference? This is what I'm eyeing.

2) I'm getting BFG KO2s, what size would be best without rubbing. Both for width and height. I'm retaining factory wheels for now but may get another 17" wheel in near future.

3) Is a diff drop necessary? I hear it doesn't do much since a 1" drop only nets around 1/2".

4) For kicking the tires out a bit, are the spider trax 1.25" the usually recommended?

I don't have any experience with the spacer lift but, I don't think you will need to worry about the diff drop. I think I've read about folks running a 275/xx-17 tires without any problems.

i'm down to help if you need any. ut getting to your lift setup it self, i understand you doing it just for looks. however with it being at 150K miles its bound to start leaking any time now. when it does you'll be stuck with a leaking piece of crap with a spacer on top. now i'm not saying go all out on it but a basic set of Dobinsons struts/coilovers, or bilstein 5100s, or ironman offroad foam cell wouldn't be all that much. plus the ride would be greatly improved and you don't have to worry about doing it all again in 6 months when the stock struts start to leak.

To be honest I like the way the truck rides at the moment. I always thought for an suv, it sure feels like a small car when handling.

yes it removes the Xreas. but the vast majority don't miss it. it's a relatively easy task to remove it aswell since its a passive system.

I removed Xreas, and I don't miss it. I went with OME parts, and I'm really happy with them. I didn't like how much preload the Bilstein lift required.
