Anyone move away from a 5th gen for a raptor and regret it

After waiting 15 weeks for my lift to arrive and with an unknown ship date I cancelled the order. Since then I’ve road in and drove my friends raptor and it has me thinking if it is simply a better move to ditch the 4runner and the effort of adding lift tire supercharger etc for a raptor. Has anyone moved from a 4runner to a raptor? If so are you glad you did or do you miss the 4runner.

i have both. i do not regret getting my raptor
Decently heavily modified 2017 4runner
and decently heavily modified 2018 raptor.

They each have their pluses and minuses. Depends on what you are looking for.
I needed a pickup truck for somethings. Apples and oranges.. not really comparable vehicles hah.

yeah depends on what you are looking for. Raptors(even f150) are huge on the trails but if you want to haul ass on desert fireroads then it is a great option.

I do wish the 4runner has the 3.5 V6TT that I drove recently, nice to be able to safely pass on the highway :flamethrwoer2:

Not exactly what you're asking, but I had a 2012 F150 super crew FX4 that I sold once we sold our camping trailer. It was a great truck to be honest. Really comfortable, well equipped, reliable, etc. But I found it just a bit big for me when driving around town, especially since I work downtown and park in tight parking lots/garages. I find the 4Runner feels a lot more manuverable and a more comfortable size for the city. I also personally find the SUV/hatch back area more practical to me since I don't haul a lot of bulk stuff in the bed. Having the cargo area protected inside the 4Runner is more useful for me.

The F150 was also pretty wide for our tight forest roads around here in western Washington. Pretty common to be dragging both sides of the truck through the bushes. The 4Runner being a bit narrower gives you more room to choose your line sometimes. If you don't have those concerns or constraints, I bet the Raptor is a hell of a lot of fun.

I drove a 2018 Raptor a few times the other day. Made me miss my 4Runner. Sure, it had more power and comfort features inside, but I hated how damn big the thing is and how it takes up the entire lane with almost no room for error. I just felt ridiculous driving it, but I'm not super 'Murica like many of you guys so maybe I'm an outlier.

Like others have said, it all comes down to your usage and desires I think.

Raptor has more power and is an amazing vehicle. In terms of desert running or towing, it blows away a 4Runner. It's also absolutely MASSIVE and I think would be a pain in the ass in day to day use at times (especially if you have to deal with tight parking situations). I've also seen them in pretty tight trails in Utah and Colorado and always been amused at just how much the width can add a lot of challenge to fitting them through things easily.

Think about if the bed would be more useful to you and if you would benefit from other things the Raptor can do better.

In some ways if I was comparing a truck to a 4Runner, I'd focus more on something like a Gladiator, Colorado ZR2 or an offroad trimmed Tacoma (for instance, TRD Pro).

I really appreciate all the responses, went and checked them out today. Going to stick with the 4runner. My concern is towing my boat. I think even moving to 285 or 295s it will be fine pulling my flats boat which is pretty light, at least I hope it will.

I traded in my 2018 Raptor for the TRD Pro and no regrets at all. It was a great truck and love the power but after a while the size of it get old.

Agree with most that it is apples and oranges. Just buy both.

I had a ‘13 Raptor SVT. I did trails in Colorado and Arizona in it. I was honestly surprised at the performance. It was a great truck and I do have some regrets for selling it. The width was a minor challenge, required some three-point turns on the trails. It was doable and fun. Warning: driving a Raptor automatically makes you an a**hole on the road

But I’m happy with the 4Runner for several reasons and happy overall I switched. Plus the wife did not like driving the Raptor.
