Anyone running 255/80/17 Tires Pizza Cutters

I tried searching and found no results, so I thought I'd ask. Is anyone running a 255/80/17 tire? They make them in that size for the Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx and I was reading people on the jeep forums giving them huge praise and great reviews. I wan't to go to a 33" but don't want 285's to kill my MPG.

So anyone running these size tires on a 4Runner and have any pics or thoughts to give?

Not a huge difference but which is correct?

I would go with Cooper's figure since the tire calc is pretty generic as does not account for different treads and manufacturing / design of specific tires.

The St maxx has only been out for a few months in that size so there are not many out there. there is a guy that has a stack of them in his garage that have not been mounted yet. There are a few tacomas and jeeps with them mounted. there is a silver 4runner in the lifted thread that has then mounted on countersteers, but just one profile picture. I pmd him yesterday to see if he had any other pictures or feedback.

I'm planning on putting st maxx. In this size on my 4runner this fall. I'm lifted 3 in and I been eyeballing it. I believe they will fit with some min or trimming. I just like this size so I'm gonna give em a shot.

I think I stop by discount tire Friday and see if they are doing any memorial day sales. I got my Cooper Discoverer ATP's for my old runner at their 4th of July sale last year.

shaneotool, my first thought was "that's not in Arkansas"! Very interesting suggestion on tire size alexb. Gonna check some pricing.

The 255 80 R17's are significantly less expensive that their 285 70 and 285 75 counterparts, and an excellent value IMO. Not to mention ~5-10lbs lighter, and a bit less rolling resistance will help with mileage a bit. Just how much is kind of speculative right now since there doesn't seem to be a lot of data out there by way of comparisons, but you will still be taking a significant hit from a stock set up for sure.

A lot of people run the Cooper ST's (older version) over on Expo and they love them. I don't think you could go wrong. Keep in mind they are more off road oriented and won't be awesome in icy conditions.

I'm running 255/80/17 KM2s. Awesome tire size and I will definitely be getting this size in the future although I'm thinking of trying the ST Maxx next time. The only down side I can think of is that I've heard you are more likely to lose a bead when aired down with that profile if you aren't running bead-lockers. I was once side ways on a slight hill with my lower side tires against a rut and I could hear air leaking out of the stock rims from the weight pushing sideways on the side wall.

Two sets actually, and it's killing me not putting them on, but one of my 5th gens is still in TX getting work done and the one here has new(ish) 285-70-17 Coopers on it. I have to fight the urge to have them installed every time I pull in the garage.

For the people wondering, I order mine from Discount Tire, they took a few days to come in, but as you can see I am in no rush.

The tires cost me (after some negotiation) $218 each carry out.

I doubt anyone has them in stock because they are so new, but any Cooper Distributor can order them, and if they are unwilling, you can call Cooper and they will put you in touch with someone who will.

I will try to mount one up this week and get some accurate measurements and perhaps a picture or two. Keep in mind when comparing tire size online, there is usually a disclaimer (like on the KM2 marked with *) that the sizes represented are approximate and could vary as much as an inch in overall height.

This situation is killing me, I am running Hankooks that have about 75% tread left. They run great and I have no complaints with them. I don't NEED new tires but I WANT these Coopers.

Stupid- yes it is but those are nice tires and I can use another 1/2 inch lift.
