Anyone running 255/80/17 Tires Pizza Cutters

The fact that you had to point out very specific, atypical scenarios where skinnier tires benefit proves my point. Generally, wider tires are better for performance on AND off road.
According to your logic,Maybe you should try some 205 section tires. Clearly, 255's are WAY too wide, and 205's be a better choice. ound:

Your opinion is valid for you I'm sure. I came from 265s so about 3/8 difference bought me almost an inch in diameter. Granted that's 1/2" gain I have a front hitch fitted now and I want as much free clearance I can snag. Also mine has evolved into more of a pig than a designated off road ride like my suzuki. We camp a lot and 66% jump in sidewall is nice piece of mind with two little kids(almost 2 and almost 3).

Being that the Copper ST Maxx LT255/80R17 are load E / 58 lbs, how do they drive on-road compared to the stock Bridgestone Dueler? Imagine the ride is a bit rough?

I may just go with one of the new Cooper AT3's (4S or LT) in a stock size.

The toyo e rated are only 50 pounds if weight is your concern. I like the coopers a lot on road. Much more responsive in my opinion but I do feel the road a little more which I prefer. Some have dropped psi for more cush. Problem going taller sidewall with out e rating to me is I'd imagine less integrity while turning

Ahhh ok. So the choice I see for a light tire is a Toyo Open Country AT2 E rated pizza cutter at 50 lbs or a C rated 285/70R17 BFG KO2 at 51 lbs. Width difference on the Toyo is 10.00 for the pizza cutter and 11.5 for the 285. Also interesting is that the 285 E rated in the Toyo is only 53 lbs. Not sure I have seen any other E rated 285 that light. Wonder if it costs a lot more.

Respectfully, your "atypical" is my "typical". Rocky roads, snow and rain in the mountains of the west coast mean that for me a skinnier tire might be a better fit. For you in Florida, sand and slick mud might be more the norm where a wider tire would be more beneficial. My point was to say that a blanket statement of "wider is better" is definitely not true for everyone, hence why I included scenarios where wider tires are better AND skinnier tires are better.

I went to amazon and had the coopers sent to the tire place. If you have prime and they don't fit it's free returns lol. With no or little lift the choice is basically width or height

Ditched My 255 Coopers for a set of 255 nitto's so should be interesting. Never posted this on here but also included a pic of my 255 85-16 Toyo's vs the Coopers to show how short the coopers are the Nitto's are almost the same height as the Toyo's... Kinda crazy how tire manufactures height vary this much.. I really loved the coopers but it was time for new shoes and I wanted to try something else.

A wider tire is better for on AND off-road performance. If Rolling resistance/fuel economy is a concern, why not just buy a Prius instead? You might save 1 mpg total by using skinnier tires.

Hate to burst your bubble but tell that to these guys they have been racing for a lot longer than the "Overlander BS!". Dakar goes over dam near every type of terrain fast or slow.. Have you ever seen a real baja truck? Most run 40x12.5" that's a tall skinny tire. Even Most KOH buggies run tall skinnies if you look at the aspect ratio dam near all competitive off road vehicles run tall skinnies... just some facts not opinions...

Sweet 4runner. Love to see more photos of your 255 nittos and your input on them. Looking to put them on my TRD Pro wheels since they are only 7 wide. What size lift do you have and any rubbing issues?

Thanks! Zero rubbing issues but my truck has aftermarket upper and lower control arms which helps pull the wheels away from the body mount a bit more.
The lift is center of hub to top of fender for the front is 23.6"' and 25.65" for the rear. These tire's should be perfect on a 7" rim, I am maxed out on rim width and keep thinking I need some evo corse wheels to get it where I want it. Have yet to put them through their paces but they will earn their keep early next year! Pic below is suspension set up without my front skid but gives you a good idea..

The Coopers are 255 80 17 listed as 32.8" it's a great tire just a bit short.. The toyo's run BIG 33.4"! The Nitto's on my truck are listed as 33.31"..

Is that a CBI aluminum bumper ?

Hefty Fab bumper #2! The original bumper to follow the body lines not the copy...........
