Yep that was me!
We have moved since the filming. We are now on 30 acres, I have a space for my shop with 50amp service and a incredible view on top of a hill.

Nice...I figured with the amount of tools you have and being a wheeler you would have a garage again very soon. Was it a pain to move the deck? Are the hosts as cool as they portray on TV?

I live in a 2,000 sq. ft. home and i have recently been interested in living in a home like yours, though i do have a two year-old and maybe one in the near future. Would be a tight fit, but i think it would change our lifestyle, hopefully for the better.

My wife and I did the very tiny apartment thing when we were dating. It wasn't set up very well so it was kind of a pain but it worked back then. If I didn't have kids I could do the tiny house thing but the Mrs. probably wouldn't go for it. I would still need a big shop though as most of my possessions have to do with garage life anyway.
On the opposite side of the spectrum,
Years ago I contemplated buying this big industrial steel building on the outskirts of town (could've picked it up for a sweet price) and basically building a house or move in a double-wide trailer (must be my redneck side) inside of that building and use the rest for a garage, parking, or whatever but she didn't go for that either.

Good on you guys. I'm trying to convince my wife that we want an almost-tiny-house. She's not buying it.
Amazing. Serious question though. With your 4Runner fully loaded, assuming its a V8 and hauling that camper what kind of gas mileage are you getting? Seems like it would come close to the cost of an actual mortgage payment, lol. But then again it's not like you're running errands with the camper attached or are you for fear of vandalism and theft?

Yes a garage is high priority and I'm making due for now with a carport.
The deck was designed and built in a sectional way, the lower section was 3 pieces and the bench was 3 pieces also. It was a couple of hours to disassemble and I had 4 friends help me move the pieces into my 18ft dump trailer to move to the new spot.
They are very cool, super laid back and they were fun to hang out with throughout the whole filming of the show, we will miss them and the rest of the crew

Thank you very much! I havent been on the boards this much this year for obvious reasons, tiny house planning.
The biggest part of Downsizing is the planning, you need to mentally prepare to downsize and if you are thinking about it for the future, my advice is to start now, use the 365 day rule, if you haven't used it in the last year get rid of it (exceptions apply of course)
This tiny house for us has not been a huge adjustment, we prepared mentally for it and it has everything we need. Part of the goal with downsizing is so we can afford and have the ability to travel more and do longer offroading trips, less expenses at home help with that and the open features of the house help bring the outside in and it feels extremely spacious

Well we have the garage part in common, working on cars and trucks is my thing and no matter what we live in I won't give that up. I still have my plans for the garage and the space to do it at (30plus acres)
Loved that idea for the shop, we were planning that also and having space to build the tiny house in there but warehouse space is very expensive in the bay area

Haha we still dont see how people can live in those really tiny houses, we built one to fit our needs and desires and it still feel huge to us.

Not sure I totally understand what you are asking?
Its a V6 and with the Offroad trailer I get 15mpg loaded with camp gear. Without the trailer I get in between 11-15mpg (you can associate that to driving habits) gas is also cheap now at $2.09 a gallon
I don't run any errands with the Offroad trailer, it stays parked at our new home location. I'm not worried about theft, its insured and always locked up.

Great looking house!!! I am looking into building one for myself in a few years. Off the grid living is a blast I bet. I do have some questions tho,
1. Your composting toilet, does it stink after a few days? How ofter do you empty it? And is emptying it a pain?
2. Water supply? Are you hooked up to city water or do you carry your own with the house in tanks?
3. Now that you have lived in the house a while, hows the space? Are you and your wife bumping into each other all the time or is it spacious once you get used to it? Or do you wish you had a few more sq feet?
4. Your sliding window is awesome! Great idea. What company made that?
5. Will your runner tow your house? Or do you need something with a little more power behind it? AKA Duramax
6. Ive already started saving but how much all said and done would a house similar to yours run me? (if you dont mind me asking)

ill answer your questions then ill touch on being off the grid a tad
1. not all composting toilets are the same, alot of people use a bucket and sawdust, which is cool for them and may be fine out wheeling (still prefer wag bags) but thats not for us. we have a very high end swedish urine- diverting composting toilet made by seperatt (seperatt villa 9200 to be exact) the key part is urine diverting, which plumbs the "one" away from the "two" and outside underground through gravel and charcoal so it can soak into the soil. think about this: your body automatically separates your pee from your poo inside your body and by keeping them seperated you eliminate the smell and human pathogens which are contained in the urine. so smell? nope none, when you sit on the toilet a trap door opens and the poo enters and when you get up the trap door closes and it is sealed from the interior of the house, there is a fan inside the toilet which vents the poo air outside and dries it all out. so being a guy we tend to tear up bathrooms from time to time, not with this toilet. no smell whatso ever and that makes all the difference in a small space! ill empty it every week or two weeks, usually before company comes over ill empty it, its easy to empty, there is bags the waste goes in so you lift up the upper half of the toilet and fold the bag over and remove it and toss in either a seperate composting pile or the trash.
2 we have both systems, a on board tank with a pump and then a system for city water or well. in the "reveal" location we were completely off grid (which sucks in practice) so we had to manually fill the interior tank via a port outside. nw at our new spot we have well water which just plumbs right into the house.
3. it always seemed spacious and it still is very spacious, not once have we felt cramped. its all the space we need and more, if we didnt have the deck and accordion window it would feel smaller for sure, but we have such a open floor plan that this tiny house feels huge. like it was mentioned in the show and here, we are huge campers and offroaders and if you have seen my offroad trailer with the arb tent youll know that a small sleeping area isnt so bad after all. we have so much outdoor space here its crazy, im so in love with this house and our property, its better than anything ive ever lived in
4. thank you, it was a must have for us! alot of companies make then but they are hard to find. Win-dor inc made the window for us and its not cheap!
5. the house weighs 12k, too much for the 4runner and the tundra, we hired a moving company to move it (which i will fully cover on a article on my website soon, so subscribe! Tiny House Basics | Follow Us On A Journey Building Our Tiny House) the truck that moved it was a 2002 F350 4x4 Dually
6. that is a hard question to answer because there is so many variables. we had so many amazing contractors that are personal friends help with the project and that saved alot. we invested $35k into the house.
