Anything about your 4R that just drives you crazy?????

There are only 2 things for me that are almost unforgiveable. First are the ridiculously bad back up lights, I have better then 20/20 vision and I have to open the window and look back to make out anything. Second is the vsc-trac control bordering on dangerous, I love pulling out into traffic when the road is slightly wet and the trac control kicking in and completely cutting off the throttle and beeping at me. If this wasn't my wifes car I would permanently disable the system.

this may be on an individual basis but im not a huge fan of the seats. My driver seat is noisy as hell.. and not great after a long road trip. this could be due to age and general wear but I also havent figure out a viable replacement that doesnt cost more then a new truck lol

Fixed this with LEDs in the reverse lights, which helps enormously, and a backup camera.

I have a set of rigid industries flush mount dually floods that are going into the rear bumper this spring. Just bothers me how bad the factory lights are

I don't have many complaints with my 4th gen, the one thing that does brother me a little bit is the placement of the turn signal indicators above the dash display, I'm 6' 3" and I do have a sunroof but I have no issues as others have stated on headroom, but where I have my seat adjusted to suit me and the steering wheel adjusted to my liking I can't see the indicators very well at all without tilting my head downward a bit to see past the top of the steering wheel and many times after changing lanes I fail to notice the turn signal is still on which bugs me that I can't notice it very well.

Anyone else notice this issue or is it just me?

Well it maybe just me but I think it's 50/50 so far, until other 6+ footers reply :lmao:, You must have longer legs and I must have a longer torso, but then ! guess I would have the headroom issue that others do!! :shrug:

I can adjust the steering wheel up more and see them fine, but I don't like it in that position.

Oh, and what's with all the complaints about the cup holders?? Get yourself a one liter Nalgene bottle or Yeti Rambler and all problems are solved. I also don't have the problems others do with fast food drinks, not sure why. Maybe I'm speshul. :shrug:

I can’t believe I know this, but the 04 has the turn signal indicators on top of the speedo. I think 06 they changed it to be right above the odometer. I had an 04 went to a 5th gen and back to an 08. I was confused by my new 4th gen as something seemed off, it was the turn signals, they moved them. I agree they were ill-placed at the top.

All in all, I am extremely happy with my 4Runner.

A few things that bother me are...

1 - The squeaky and noisy driver seat.
2 - RUST! The body is in great shape but the frame and underneath is in tough shape.
3 - My fear of the V6 head gasket
4 - My fear of the rear window exploding every time I use the rear defogger
5 - The remote only opens the rear window and does not close it
6 - The way the sun reflects off the hood scoop at times blinding me.

If this is all I can find after 200,000 miles... It is a damn good vehicle!

Rattle in the sunroof makes me nuts, but not nuts enough to fix it. Right at 200,000 miles and very minor issues along the way. This one is the 2003 V8 SR5. Been a great rig.

I realized that as I was driving home last night. First time I used my signals, I thought, "How the hell is he sitting if he can't see the lights??" Then it dawned on me and I called my daughter (who has an '03) and asked where her indicator lights are. She's used to bizarre questions from me so she wasn't too phased. :lmao:

That's not only funny but a coincidence as well, yesterday as I was driving home and used my turn signal, I was saying to myself..."how the hell can he see them"...!!! ound:

Same here. The rattle in that sunroof makes me nuts. When it's in the vent position in the summer, the rattle is out of control. I have tried fixing it to no avail and have Googled the hell out of the topic. I tried the TSB fix...nothing. That thing just rattles like crazy.

Same height/body type here. I had to buy a 4Runner without the sunroof because of the headroom issue. Plenty of room without a sunroof.
