Anything about your 4R that just drives you crazy?????

squeak in the headliner clip near drivers side door
drivers seat does not go back far enough for 6'-2" tall individual with long legs
wish there were knobs instead of push buttons for climate control
thump in driveline
no lighting on door armrests for window/door lock buttons
right front tire rub on sharp turn (stock tires and wheels)
7-pin trailer connector sits too far back
worthless cup holder
lack of one-pull windshield washer/wipe function
low ground clearance
ridiculous little cubbyhole areas throughout the vehicle
oil dipstick hard to read
no transmission dipstick

Still the most reliable and bulletproof vehicle I’ve ever owned and hope to keep it for another 20 years.

I was driving the other day and it was 2 degrees outside but the 4runner is blowing cold AC........WTF?!?

No working cup holders and almost no place to stash anything in reach.

Single lighter jack.

Odd no room seating position for the driver without my head being outside the sunroof.

I want to love the truck but if feels like the interior is mostly an afterthought to me?

I don't know if I have a light out behind my display or not (it's been this color since I bought it) but this. This color difference drives me banaynays :banana:

Replace both bulbs, 2 minutes and `$10 for the bulbs, good for another decade.

Mine was the same and that was the fix.

Mainly for me it’s the cup holder issue and that you can’t roll the rear window up with the key fob, but that’s what pretty much everyone else has to say as wel

Mine is the same way. I think it's because the radio uses LEDs and the HVAC uses incandescent bulbs. The difference doesn't bother as much as the Amber color. Why did Toyota choose such an ugly color?!

Ah I misunderstood you. There's a contrast/brightness setting on the radio, somewhere in the setting menu. I know I adjusted mine to tone it down. Lasted until I put a Pioneer unit in.

I guess I'm in the minority, I like the sedate amber/orange lighting. If anything I'd change my led interior lights to either red or back to regular bulbs. The leds are a bit too jarring to me.

Front seat comfort. My only serious issue.

If i could remake the world, i'd get away from the electronic actuation of the transfer case and make it more mechanical, or at least something that can be overridden mechanically. I never minded the transfer case shifter on the floor om my '92 Toyota Shortbed 4x4, right next to the 5 spd.

Other than that I am 100% satisfied with it. hope to drive it a good long time. I put over 300K on my last 3 camrys, I hope to do that with the 4R as well.

Yeah, the Amber lights are sedate. That's why I've kept them even though I don't like the color. I had another 4runner and I put white LEDs in and they were too harsh for me on dark roads at night.
Good to know! I didn't know you could adjust the brightness only on the radio.

The passenger front seat ticking noise and the rust bubbles starting to form on my tailgate.

I'm 6'2" and 200+ lbs and have no complaints about the seat comfort. Nothing else really comes to mind as far as annoying, though I agree it's ridiculous that the map lights don't come on when the doors are opened.

Not trying to be a wise guy, but it might be time to just replace the windshield. Or maybe a glass place could give it a polishing treatment?

Someone told me a while back (and I'd never considered it) that windshields are consumable, just like brakes and tires, and sometimes need to be replaced when they're not as clear as they once were.

i swear i saw a keyfob on ebay that allowed you to roll the window up...maybe it was for a different model though.

You may have already done this, but here is the "Map Light Mod" that takes care of the dome light issue. One of the best quick fixes for the 4runner!

Is the ticking noise coming from the bottom front passenger side? May be the air mix servo. Take a look at this:

Couldn’t have said it better myself. The map light mod is curable at least.

You may have already done this, but here is the "Map Light Mod" that takes care of the dome light issue. One of the best quick fixes for the 4runner!

At least there is a mod for it but the issue with the mod is if a door is open you cannot turn the lights off. It’s not a huge issue but would be nice to be able to

I have an '05, SR5 2WD and these are the only things I don't enjoy about my truck:

-brake pedal "buzzing" when activating the accumulator
-the awkward "crunch" you feel in the gas pedal when tires are slipping (aka drifting) and when your idle speed is too low to keep you on a hill
-the fact that you can't turn off VSC
-the rake (fixing this soon)
-the weird shift of weight when put into drive or reverse (sorry if there is a correct term for this I don't know too much about mechanics)
-lack of interior lighting
-a/c controls are confusing to passengers
-cant find the perfect seat position, when I'm up too close my knees hit the plastic under the steering wheel and when I'm too far away I feel like I can't see (I'm only 5'11, 130 lbs so it's not so much of an issue)
-the fact that the 4runner grille guy doesn't make satoshi assemblies for 03-05
-running boards make it look like a street truck unless leveled or lifted
-the fact that 4th gens look kinda girly so I can't call it a truck around my friends
It seems like a lot but I really love it though and wouldn't want anything else
