Anything about your 4R that just drives you crazy?????

For me it's the position of the tailpipe. In my previous SUV I liked to vent the sunroof and just crack open the rear window for ventilation. Try that on my 04 and all I get is exhaust inside...

I have to admit I was shocked to see Toyota didn't fix/correct that on the 5G and go to a side outlet...

Has anyone changed their exhaust to a side outlet??

I'm no expert on air flow, but when I vent the back window I also crack the front or back windows a tad. Never noticed any exhaust, and I don't think you would since the air coming from the side windows flows right out the back and pushes air with it.

It drive me nuts that there is no tap-once-to-get-the-windshield-wipers-to-wipe-once option on my '05 (please correct me if I am wrong on this - I would LOVE to find out if there actually is an option for this, either hidden or can be added)

I am also not a big fan of the AC controls.

I'm a bigger guy, so the drivers seat drives me crazy, can't blame them for this I guess, the exhaust would be nicer if out the side, the tick in the engine bothers me as well.

Climate control in general. I find I either want it on Lo or Hi and you have to hold down or push the button a million times.

Curved lip of the DD shelf. Intitially I thought the whole idea of the shelf was stupid, but I've actually used it quite a bit. Why it was "designed" to promote items rolling off it is beyond me.

Tailpipe desgn as mentioned. Love that the back window opens. Very handy for transporting longer items, but I've also experienced the terrible exhaust smell that comes with that (even with front windows open).

VSC. While I appreciate it as a safety feature, I guess I'm just too much of a control freak to like it. If I put the pedal to the metal I want power. It seems to me it could be more dangerous to lose control like this in certain situations, but so far it's just been an irritant. First week I had the truck I was on a snowy incline. Tires started to slip a bit, I gave it more gas and power went down. To get up the hill I have to lock centre dif? Kind of a drag.

Having said all that I still wouldn't want any other vehicle.

I wish that they didnt lower the body as compared to the previous gen. They should have done to the stock height what they did for the 5th gen. Also like people said about the climate control. I like our '07 Accords climate control way better. That being said, Mike Rowe still wont convince me to take it down to Ford and trade it for an Escape...

yea i'm a pretty lithe dude so the 4R feels good, but can't imagine being comfy in it if i was north of 200lbs.

that's when the american suvs do well. big butts.

i dont care too much for the window locks... when u push the window lock button the driver should be able to control all of the windows and u cant! it urks me sometimes with the neices! i am also not a fan of the exhaust when the rear window is down! i do alot of highway driving and it only happens to me while accelerating as apposed to cruising....

I'd really like this too. My 05 Taco had it, why couldn't the T4R have it?

I cant stand the shift logic of the transmission. When you slow to a around 10mph to make a sharp 90 deg. turn and then give it some gas once on the new road its very jerky and difficult to modulate a smooth transition to acceleration. Basically, it feels like its in the wrong gear for the speed and it happens to me at least 4 times a day at various points on my route to work.

Wipers are my biggest peeve. No mist function and the intermittent use is backwards. Roll back for faster ?? seems wrong.

1. Only the driver's window is one-touch...that's weak as ****.

2. Key fob can't roll up the rear window. Really? How hard would this have been to program?

The thing that makes me absolutely nuts is that the AC compressor robs power. Feels like she's schizophrenic- a V8 w/o the AC or defrost on and a V6 with it on...

And #2 on the one-touch wipers

Most annoying: recirc. button won't keep the setting I set. Pain in the ARSS. And the fact that you can't change (or even see) the temperature unless the fan is on.

Other issues I have are minor complaints only.

My biggest gripe, is the HVAC system in general.

In the winter when it gets cold, if I set it to 67 that's the temp I want coming out the vents.

Instead though, if it's 37 outside the computer goes 'oh no it's way to cold' and blasts the hottest temp it possible can out the vents until it gets to 67. Then if it gets 69 inside, it starts blowing out cold air out of the vents. And since I like the air coming out the dash vents. You instantly feel the change.

I find myself always adjusting the stupid temp because the truck won't just blow 67 out the vents like I want. Shoot my 20 year old car with slider controls, I adjust it and never have to touch it again the rest of the day.

There have been quite a few things that have bugged the poo-poo out of me since I’ve had my ride.

-The lack of lighting (footwells, console box, underhood)
-Not having ALL the windows as auto up/down
-Not having Mist feature on wipers
-The front cup holders are useless!
-A/C recirculate button having a mind of it's own
-Not really something that would bug you unless you are doing the nav mod, but it bugs the hell out of me that they designed different center consoles for JBL & w/out JBL (and different A/C controls that have to be used with them)

Still love my 4Runner though! :biggrin2:
