How much extra $$ is the additional 8gb of ram?

You can buy 16gb on Newegg for less than $100 and install it yourself in about 15 minutes. Might be more cost effective to keep the one you have and upgrade the ram later as you add apps to the system.
 
Sitting here at the 7th group Special Forces compound 2 hours early because apparently everyone hates Coastie's and doesn't communicate to them when training starts.

He could, but he bought a macbook pro and the second you open one up it voids the warranty. Unless he's comfortable doing that.

Not true. There are several sources in Apple's forums stating that it does not. Replacing RAM is a user accessible feature. There are detailed instructions in the owners manual on how to do it. Why would Apple include instructions to something that would void the warranty?

Hmmm interesting I'll have to look into that with mine. I was told otherwise but thats good! thanks!
 
Ram in the retina macbooks and the macbook airs is soldered to the motherboard. There is no way to easily upgrade it. Thats why I've been going back and forth. I'm stuck with what I choose for as long as I own the computer .

this has nothing to do with T4R's however...

My Husband and kids just surprised me with a brand new Macbook pro!!! I had NOOOO idea! they're the best ever! now... to learn a mac.... wish me luck!

Stopped by Seaside Heights yesterday on the way home from off roading. Very sad after Hurricane Sandy, but they are doing a good job so far with the clean up. I think the roller coaster is going to stay in the ocean, so I hear.

I was not happy with that either. Forces your hand. I ended up with the 2.7 768gb and 16gb ram. The 2.7 I don't think is necessary, but they only stock three different versions in their stores (also dumb) and I was in Oregon where they don't have tax on goods, so I just went for it since it would be about the same as the one I would want with the 2.6 and tax.

Most of what I read said that the processor upgrades weren't worth it. You pay a lot for only small performance gains. The SSD is something that I knew would be upgradable aftermarket. I figured I will look at buying a new one in a few years if I need it and save the $500 plus that apple charges. Still not sure on the RAM.
