AOB switch question

Sorry it took me so long to reply... I just saw this post!

Here's the AOB Switch wiring color code:

Green/Yellow comes from a 12V power source (HOT)

Blue/Yellow feed/triggers the relay coil (term #86)

Red/Yellow (Optional) Illumination circuit from the Instrument cluster (parking lights)

Black goes to GND: either from the "gray wire" on any of the other dash switches, or any conveniently located, clean bolt in-dash.

Now that's it, wire it like this and you're done! Hope this helps... but don't hesitate to reply with any questions if you need help!

I am FINALLY going to wire up this light (mounted the light a few weeks ago), and I went to review my old posts and I think they got lost when the sight got hacked.

I had included the picture of my wiring harness and I am pretty sure you had said which wire to connect each wire to. I am pretty sure but want to refresh my memory.

AOB black to harness black
AOB red to harness red
AOB green to harness blue
AOB blue to add a fuse spot #2 (i believe)

Is this correct? Hoping to get to this this weekend or next Friday.

I don't know the color coding of your new harness, but I DO know the numbers on the (Standard) Relay; you must (for this to work) too! Pull the relay off of the harness. You may have to cut the rubber sleeve a bit to verify the colors of the wires going to the relay terminals!

Terminal #30 gets connected to the battery/power source, the RED wire with the in-line fuse connected to it! The LARGE BLK wire on the new harness (with the connector loop) goes to the NEG Battery terminal, and gets connected to Terminal #85 on the relay as well.

At the AOB switch, the Green/Yellow wire connects to the RED wire that's on the switch that came with your kit (GRN/YW to RED)! BLACK AOB connects to the BLACK wire on the kit's switch (pull it off and connect it to the AOB switch)! The BLUE/YELLOW AOB switch wire gets connected to the BLUE wire on the kit's BLUE switch wire.

It also goes to the relay, TERMINAL#86 (coil feed/Trigger)! And Terminal#87A will feed the LED Bar! The RED/YW wire on the AOB switch is (Optional) only used to light the etched face icon when the parking/headlights are on! Hope this helps, 'Best to you',

I guess i am a bit confused (probably my lack of knowledge). In the wiring diagram that came with my switch, it says that the AOB blue is the OPTIONAL, which I assume is what goes to the add a fuse.

Yeah, I believed you cause I have that one too! So if the wires on the switch are RED, GRN, BLU, and BLK, then follow that color code. If they're like the diagram that I posted, follow that; it is confusing that there are more than one version for the AOBSW800-series and 900-series switches!

Definitely doesnt make it easy! Thanks for all the help. Will update once I get this done and either have a functioning light or have fried it!

Sure thing. I was in a rush and didn't take many pictures when I did it. But I have a few things to tidy up and I'll take some pictures then and do a mini write up.

I was trying the same thing but I messed something up:

Here is my situation:
All the lights went off in the overhead panel, the stereo side lights, the ac lights, and the wiper lights, sill get power to the green wire on the wiper switch, but the grey wire seems to not work.

When i run a lead off the gray wire to a metal spot on the frame all the lights turn back on? any ideas?

Also the dimmer switch still dims the gauge cluster and the radio screen, but if I touch the lead from the wiper switch to metal and get the lights back on, they wont dim now... Took apart the dimmer and its not burnt.

I am completely lost as to what happened and where. I went and looked at interior pictures on google to see if something wasn't lighting up trying to pinpoint where the short is but everything turns on when I touch the lead from the grey wire to metal, even the wiper switch still works.

Also found out if I use a add-a- circuit to the under dash fuse panel it pops soon as i turn on the lights... So is or could it be that i shorted the under dash fuse box?

Ok. Here are a few pictures, ended up getting out there and just tidying it up. I am not an electrician, I am not good at wiring and such, I read for far too long for what is likely an easy project.

-Proceed at your own risk, so many variables of parts of there, what I did may not work for all.

-Lightsource light bar behind the upper grill

-AOB light switch. i believe my wiring is the updated coloring (the colors changed at some point, so some of the early references and wiring diagrams are confusing. Lots of color options of the AOB switches, make sure to get the new toyota blue I believe.

-My light bar came with a nice wiring harness, which made it easy. But it took me a while to really verify what color meant what since i didnt have the original instructions (bought used).

-I initially wired it and it worked, but it felt more like a bandaid. Today i put on some more heat shrink, and now I feel better about it.

-I did not tap into my wiper heater, I just did an add a fuse, so it will not dim, but it lights up just like it should.

-Black to black, red to red, blue to green, and the blue/yellow to the add a fuse.

-One picture is my before (bottom), one picture is where I put the add a fuse (middle), one picture is the final part (top). If anything looks out of sort please let me know, but it works just fine (knock on wood.)

Cant remember. But it's on passenger side closer to driver (farther from engine). Worked out perfect.
